Gray Goo is a real-time sci-fi strategy game. It was developed by the Petroglyph Games studio, founded by the creators of the Command & Conquer series and with, among others, Star Wars: Empire At War and Universe At War: Earth Assault.
The game is set in the distant future, five hundred years after humanity began colonizing other star systems. The action of the game takes place on a planet known as the Ecosystem of Nine, which is controlled by three factions: humans, cosmic refugees from the Beta race and murderous nanobots known as Goo. Each group, of course, has its own set of unique units, buildings and technologies.
The aim of the authors was to return to the RTS style, which was popular in the mid-90s, and at the same time to modernize it so that it could appeal to modern players. This means moving away from the constant manual management of every single unit movement. Instead, the gameplay focuses on the macro scale, especially on gathering resources, building bases and selecting the right armies.
We do all this through a simple interface that does not require you to remember dozens of keyboard shortcuts, and victory requires developing a good strategic plan, not lightning fast reflexes during the battles themselves. Gray Goo offers a story campaign and a multiplayer mode based on the Steamworks system. At the same time, the option of playing over the local network is also available.
The game offers attractive three-dimensional graphics and an interesting visual style, which was developed with the help of WETA Workshop, one of the largest studios creating special effects for movies.
