This is billed as 'an opera for children of all ages'. It is best suited to being performed by adults or teenagers to younger children, as the vocal parts are quite challenging yet the story, taken from a Grimm fairy tale, is simple and childlike. Limited vocal and instrumental forces are employed, making it ideal for amateur dramatic groups on a tight budget!The story is that the Princess of a small kingdom leaves home to be married to the Prince of the next kingdom, taking with her an attendant (the Waiting-Woman), a magic cloth with three wishes and Falada the talking horse. On the road, the attendant steals the magic cloth and wishes herself Princess; when they arrive at the Kingdom she is betrothed to the Prince - much against his will, as she is old and complaining - while the Princess is put to work as a goose-girl and Falada's head is cut off. Still able to speak, he and the Princess complain of their fate and are overheard by the good King, who steals the cloth back from the Waiting-Woman and marries the Prince and Princess happily to each other. The last wishes are used to bring the Princess's mother to the wedding and to put Falada back together, then cookies are passed to the cast and audience.This is the Schirmer edition of the Vocal Score and is in English only.

The gods Wotan and his wife Fricka have build a new castle and paid the giants by promising them Fricka's sister Freia, who grows the golden apples that give the gods their power. After a struggle, she is kidnapped and all the gods begin to age and weaken. To get her back they decide to steal the Ring and bargain with the giants. br>Meanwhile Alberich has been forcing others to mine gold and Mime makes a helmet, the 'Tarnhelm', out of it, thinking this will help him seize the Ring. Alberich steals the Tarnhelm but the gods arrive and trick both it, the Ring and his gold out of him, taking him prisoner. In a fury he curses the Ring to bring death and envy to all who posess it. The gods use the Ring and helmet to bargain with the giants. They win Freia back and go home to their new castle, but as they leave the giant Fafner murders his brother Fasolt to claim the ring, continuing its bloody history...

With its famous arias and ensembles, Aida has become one of the most popular operas ever written. The libretto was prepared by Antonio Ghislanzoni based on a text by French author Camille du Locle. and the plot is as follows: At the court of the Pharaoh, a captain of the guard, Radames, is in love with the slave-girl Aida. Her mistress is the Pharaoh?s daughter, Amneris, who covets Radames for herself. Unbeknownst to all, Aida is actually an Ethiopian princess, daughter of Egypt?s worst enemy King Amonasro. When Ethiopia declares war on the Nile, Radames is delighted to be made Commander of the Egyptian army, whereas Aida is torn between her love for Radamès and for her native land. The Egyptians are victorious, and all go to the city gates where a celebration is taking place, as captured Ethiopians follow the victors into the city. Among them is Amonasro, Aida's father, who signals her not to betray his identity. At a plea from Radamès he is not executed but is taken into custody, and the King offers Radames Amneris' hand in marriage.Amonasro, finding Aida homesick and lovelorn, forces his daughter to agree to ask Radamès where the Egyptian army plans to enter Ethiopia. This she does, and just as he reveals the secret, Amonasro steps out of hiding, and Ramfis and Amneris come forth from the temple. While Aida escapes with her father, Radamès surrenders to the priests and is condemned as a traitor. He is sealed in a tomb to die, but Aida has waited for him there and they die together.This is the Schirmer edition of the Libretto, in the original Italian with an English translation by Walter Ducloux.
