The Arbitration Act 1996 - Rowan Planterose - Bog - John Wiley and Sons Ltd - Plusbog.dk

"There should not be a practitioner who does not have a copy ... highly recommended." — Arbitration When first published, The Arbitration Act 1996: A Commentary was described by Lord Bingham as "intensely practical and admirably user-friendly". It remains the most readable, useful, practical and user-friendly guide to the Arbitration Act 1996. The courts – particularly the Commercial and the Technology & Construction Courts – continue to grapple with many questions relating to the Act, with many judgments reported since the previous edition was published. While many of these do not add to the wisdom on this legislation, for the fifth edition the authors have considered some 330 new cases, resulting in extensive changes throughout much of the commentary. Many of the cases going to court concern challenges to awards and as a result the commentary on the relevant sections of the Act (ss. 67, 68, 70 and 72) has been subject to very substantial revision indeed. The details of all of these changes are of great importance to practitioners, whether lawyers or arbitrators. In addition there have been some significant changes to the Model Law since publication of the previous edition, which are fully documented and commented upon. Alterations to the CPR, the new UNCITRAL Rules (2010), the new ICC Rules (2012) and the new ICE Arbitration Procedure (2010) are also covered. Written by three practising arbitrators, the fifth edition continues to be the essential handbook for all concerned with English arbitration.

Low-Cost Veterinary Clinical Diagnostics - Ryane E. Englar - Bog - John Wiley and Sons Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Low-Cost Veterinary Clinical Diagnostics - Ryane E. Englar - Bog - John Wiley and Sons Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Low-Cost Veterinary Clinical Diagnostics A practical guide to maximizing the diagnostic value of in-house quick assessment tests (QATs) In Low-Cost Veterinary Clinical Diagnostics, the authors provide a hands-on resource designed to facilitate healthcare delivery across the spectrum of care. Historically, clinicians have been taught to apply the gold standard approach to the practice of medicine. However, recent advances in veterinary medical care and associated technologies have made practitioners question whether a one-size-fits-all approach is truly best. After all, when we perform diagnostic tests, are we testing out of the desire for completeness, to cover all bases for the good of the patient? Or are we testing because we are expected to? The reality is that gold standard care is not always advisable and not always possible. In clinical practice, veterinarians frequently encounter obstacles that limit their approaches to case management. Cost of care is a significant constraint that requires practitioners to rethink which diagnostic tests are essential. Not every patient requires a complete blood count (CBC), chemistry profile, urinalysis, and fecal analysis to obtain diagnostic value. This text suggests that the “best” approach to case management be determined by the situation, the context, the patient, and the client. While sophisticated panels of tests may remain the recommended approach to case management, Low-Cost Veterinary Clinical Diagnostics outlines entry-level, in-house diagnostic blood, urine, fecal, and body cavity fluid tests: how to perform them as well as the breadth and depth of patient-specific data that can be gleaned from quick assessment tests (QATs). Readers will also find: A thorough introduction to patient care considerations, communication strategies that facilitate cost-conscious shared decision-makingComprehensive explorations of quick assessment tests (QATs) in hematology, including packed cell volume (PCV), total solids (TS), buffy coat analysis, blood smears, blood glucose, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), saline agglutination tests, and activated clotting time. Practical discussions of quick assessment tests (QATs) involving urine, including urine color, dipstick analysis, specific gravity (USG), and urine sediment analysisPragmatic evaluation of fecal analysis, including considerations surrounding fecal color, volume, consistency, and odor; saline smears or wet mounts, and fecal flotation. Discussion on body cavity fluid analysisSample case vignettes, complete with question and answer (Q&A) Perfect for veterinary practitioners, veterinary technicians, veterinary and veterinary technician students, Low-Cost Veterinary Clinical Diagnostics offers a quick and easy reference guide to maximizing diagnostic value in those cases where care is cost-prohibitive.

The Lost Spirit of Capitalism - Bernard Stiegler - Bog - John Wiley and Sons Ltd - Plusbog.dk

The Lost Spirit of Capitalism - Bernard Stiegler - Bog - John Wiley and Sons Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Max Weber famously argued that the rise of capitalism in early modern Europe was premised on the emergence of a distinctive set of attitudes - including the pursuit of profit for its own sake - which he called ‘the spirit of capitalism’. Today, when capitalism has spread across the globe, the spirit of capitalism would appear to reign supreme. In this important book Bernard Stiegler takes a very different view: what we are witnessing today is not the triumph of the spirit of capitalism but rather its demise, as our contemporary ‘hyper-industrial’ societies become increasingly uncontrollable, profoundly irrational and incapable of inspiring hope. Disenchantment and despair have become the everyday lived experiences of countless individuals. Far from being a moment of liberation, May ''68 was just the first symptom of our increasing disenchantment and ''spiritual misery''. The libidinal energy that originally underpinned capitalism has become an unbound force, unleashing drives that can no longer be contained. Is there an alternative? Stiegler argues that the development of alternatives must begin with a new industrial policy, designed to recognize that technologies are what Plato called pharmaka, meaning both poison and cure. Industrial society has a future only if we can create technologies that foster relations of care (otium) for people whose spirit has been exhausted by contemporary consumerism. We must develop an ecology not only to protect the planet but also to renew the exploited energies of human desire. This volume - the third in a trilogy that includes The Decadence of Industrial Democracies and Uncontrollable Societies of Disaffected Individuals - will consolidate Stiegler''s reputation as one of the most original philosophers and cultural theorists of our time.
