Chamaecyparis Pisifera Filifera Aurea. Sawara Cypress Tree

Chamaecyparis Pisifera Filifera Aurea. Sawara Cypress Tree

Chamaecyparis Pisifera Filifera Aurea is a low growing conifer and is known as the Sawara Cypress tree or False Cypress. It is native to Japan and Taiwan.Grown for its wood in Japan, the wood from these trees is used for building temples but it has become a very popular ornamental cypress for parks and gardens both in the Far East and now in Western Europe. This golden cultivar has attractive feathery, yellow foliage. Chamaecyparis Pisifera Filifera Aurea has received the AGM Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society, a sure sign that it will perform well in most gardens. The evergreen foliage of Chamaecyparis Pisifera Filifera Aurea is extremely ornamental, persisting throughout the year and providing valuable winter colour for your garden. Its thread-like foliage is a bright gold when young, contrasting with the older green foliage beneath. The gracefully weeping branches create a dense mound while the plants are young. The peeling, red-brown bark adds to the visual interest.Hardy throughout the UK and continental Europe, the Sawara Cypress tree will grow to a metre in height in 10 years before reaching a mature height of 8-12 metres and spread of 4-8 metres in 20 to 50 years, forming a broad cone shape. Pruning is only recommended to remove dead or broken branches.  Plant your Chamaecyparis Pisifera Filifera Aurea in an exposed or sheltered position in acid or neutral moist but well-drained soil. Once established it is drought-tolerant. Full sun is recommended for the best colour development. While it is not suitable for coastal plantings, it is very tolerant of urban pollution so makes a good selection for city gardens. Resistant to deer, it will do well in country settings.Sawara Cypress is an excellent specimen shrub or tree for a focal point in a lawn, where its striking colour will show to good advantage. A row of Chamaecyparis Pisifera Filifera Aurea would make an excellent boundary hedge with its dense growth and eventual height, or it could be interplanted with other species for a highlight in a mixed hedge. Growing Tip: Prefers slightly acidic soils.

Cedrus Deodara Aurea. Golden Deodar. Golden Himalayan Cedar

Cedrus Deodara Aurea. Golden Deodar. Golden Himalayan Cedar

Cedrus Deodara Aurea The attractive Cedrus Deodara Aurea is an evergreen cedar with beautiful golden foliage. This conifer was discovered in 1866 and has been known as the Golden Himalayan Cedar or Golden Deodar for over a century.Cedrus Deodara Aurea grows in a conical shape that’s broad and strong, but it doesn’t get as large as it’s green toned cousin Cedrus Deodara. The main reason people choose this variety is the strong colour that lasts all year round. It’s 4 cm needles sit on horizontal branches with a gently weeping tip, and the foliage is yellow-green with a blue-toned underside. In spring the needles appear more muted as new foliage grows, but in winter they brighten to a strong golden yellow when not much else in the garden holds any colour. Some cones may form in autumn, but they are not as plentiful as on Cedrus Deodara.Height and Spread of Cedrus Deodara AureaCedrus Deodara Aurea is a fast-growing cedar that will reach a maximum size of four to six metres tall and two and a half metres wide over ten years.  How Hardy is Cedrus Deodara AureaAlthough Golden Deodar is not as hardy as Cedrus Deodara, it will withstand UK winters down to sub-zero temperatures if planted in a sheltered spot free from frost pockets and water-logged ground. Like most cedars, Aurea is drought tolerant once established and has good disease resistance. How To Use Cedrus Deodara AureaThis is a favourite good-sized evergreen conifer that retains its character all year round, and its gloriously bright colours make cedrus deodara aurea an obvious choice for bare winter gardens. The strong conical shape and gently weeping branches bring form and structure in the cold months and provide shelter for wildlife throughout the seasons. It’s stunning as a specimen tree or planted in a fence line row.How To Care For Cedrus Deodara AureaGolden Deodar will grow in all types of soil and it needs little care once established. Newly planted specimens need regular watering, but once they are growing well you can leave them to their own devices. No pruning is required but trimming the branches lightly each year will manage the height and spread if you need to keep the size down.  A good thick layer of mulch in spring will suppress surrounding weeds and retain moisture around the roots. This leads to healthy growth and bright colours over the coming season.

Cupressus Topiary Pom Pom Trees. Leyland Topiary For Sale UK

Cupressus Topiary Pom Pom Trees. Leyland Topiary For Sale UK

Leyland Cypress trees are incredibly fast growing and are often used for conifer topiary, particularly where distinct topiary structures are required. These Cupressus Topiary Trees are available as topiary spirals and as three ball shapes which we call Topiary Pom Pom. Now in stock, these Cupressus Leylandii Cypress Pom Pom Trees are beautifully shaped like cloud trees and are easy to maintain. They are ideal for pots or to plant into the ground and they look stunning in terracotta containers. The Cypress tree is an ancient evergreen conifer which comes in many varieties. Most cypress trees have an exceptionally long lifespan, living hundreds of years. These specimens are Cupressus Leylandii Aurea (or Golden Leyland Cypress). The new foliage emerges golden yellow and contrasts beautifully with the more mature dark green foliage adding to the drama of the pom pom topiary shape. The Pom Pom Topiary shape of these Leyland Cypress trees strongly evoke the look of Cloud Trees but without the more expensive price tag. Pom Pom topiary is generally formed over time from a shrub that is pruned into multi-stems (or several main stems), each with a ‘ball’ or ‘pom pom’ of foliage at the end. Pom-pom topiary has such distinctive and unique form that each plant should ideally be used as a stand-alone focal point in your design.Topiary is an ancient art and topiary plants come in many shapes and sizes available. Growing Tip: Pruning will be required. We advise to prune twice per annum, probably best at the start and the end of the summer. Wear gloves as the foliage can be sticky. Always keep you Leylandii well-watered.

Cornus Sanguinea Anny or Dogwood Anny Winter Orange Buy UK

Cornus Sanguinea Anny or Dogwood Anny Winter Orange Buy UK

Cornus Sanguinea Anny's Winter Orange or Dogwood Anny's Winter OrangeCornus Sanguinea Anny's Winter Orange also called Dogwood Anny's Winter Orange, is vigorous shrub that provides a striking winter display. The small bush grows to a height of 90 to 120 cm with a similar spread. It is multi-stemmed with a suckering growth habit. The tough shrub is exceptionally eye-catching when massed as a shrub border or used as an informal hedge. It also makes an acceptable privacy screen. During the spring months, the dogwood sprouts large, ovate green leaves that stand out in stark contrast to the yellowish-orange stems. When summer arrives, Cornus Sanguinea Anny's Winter Orange produces dense clusters of white flowers that readily attract butterflies and birds to the garden. Following flowering, ample blueberry-like berries form that are a deep purple hue. The berries attract a bevy of birds who enjoy dining on them. In the autumn months, the foliage of the Dogwood Anny’s Winter Orange takes on shades of bright orange, bronze and yellow before falling. However, even though the foliage has disappeared, the true show is just beginning. The stems begin to develop a bright yellow colour. As the cold winter weather progresses, the stems turn orange and boast bright red tips. The vibrant colours of the stems persist throughout the winter months and look extremely striking in any garden setting. Cornus Sanguinea Anny’s Winter Orange grows best in full sun or partial shade. It is not fussy about soil type but prefers moderately moist conditions that are not overly wet. Ideally, the soil should be high in organic content. Once established it is easy to grow and requires virtually no care to thrive. It needs no pruning, but the best winter colours appear on the newest shoots. Cutting the shrub flush to the ground every two or three years in the spring promotes new stem growth. However, if you do not wish to severely prune the shrub, then it is suggested that one-quarter to one-third of the old growth shoots be removed every few years to make room for new growth. The flowers of the Dogwood Anny’s Winter Orange only form on stems that are two years old or older. Cornus Sanguinea Anny’s Winter Orange is native to most of Europe and some parts of western Asia. It has an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society. If you are looking for a shrub that needs very little care to thrive and provides year-round visual interest than the Dogwood Anny’s Winter Orange is an outstanding choice.
