Edgeworthia Chrysantha Grandiflora Paper Bush Grandiflora

Edgeworthia Chrysantha Grandiflora Paper Bush Grandiflora

A winter-flowering, deciduous shrub, Edgeworthia Chrysantha Grandiflora, more commonly known as Paper Bush Grandiflora, is one of those plants that takes your breath away the first time you see it. Grown for its spectacular form and showy, fragrant flowers, this unique shrub is an ideal candidate for a statement or specimen plant. In the time of year where little else is blooming, this variety of Edgeworthia Chrysantha is enveloped by honey-scented blossoms. Appearing on the tips of bare branches, clusters of yellow and white tubular flowers, borne in spherical heads, adorn the shrub in late winter to early spring. The stems are covered with cinnamon-coloured, papery bark, so durable it’s used in the production of Japanese banknotes. The leaves are large, medium green and narrowly ovate, emerging on the shrub after the flowering season.Member of the same family as Daphne Odora, this winter flowering shrub also prefers sheltered, lightly shaded locations. Thriving in full sun to partial shade, Paper Bush Grandiflora needs moist, but well-drained loam soil, rich in humus.  Native to China, this winter-flowering shrub is fully hardy in Britain and Ireland, in areas where temperatures don’t drop below -10 degrees. In gardens where winter frost is a common occurrence, Paper Bush Grandiflora will need sheltering to make it through the winter.A deciduous shrub with a bushy habit, Paper Bush Grandiflora is a low-maintenance plant. The multi-stemmed branches don’t require trimming or hard pruning to maintain their graceful form. Routine removal of dead and damaged stems immediately after flowering ensures this pest and disease free plant stays in great shape. Fairly compact even when fully established, the expected height and spread for this shrub is 1 to 1.5 metres, both high and across. An early bloomer suitable for planting in pots, Paper Bush Grandiflora can be just the right plant for your patio or balcony. The yellow winter blossoms bring colour to a dormant landscape and fill the air with sweet, heavy fragrance. Umbrella-shaped when mature, this graceful shrub is guaranteed to be the center of attention. Although often chosen as a statement, focus or specimen plant, this extraordinary shrub works well in mixed borders, too. Plant it alongside early blooming shrubs and perennials, for a stunning winter border.

They’re borne across the whole vine in May and early June in a bright splash of white that attracts lots of bees and butterflies. When planting, keep it at least a foot away from the wall so rain can reach its roots and give it strong wire support to cling to.In low-maintenance gardens you can leave it to grow, but in most cases when it’s left unpruned it can turn into a tangle of stems with no foliage or flowers near the base. If it becomes overgrown, prune it immediately after flowering cutting back to a healthy pair of buds.In very overgrown specimens, you can shear off the mass of vines to a few feet, leaving four to five stems that will reshoot healthier and stronger than before.Water Clematis Grandiflora well until it’s established and apply a thick layer of well-rotted organic mulch to the roots in early spring.

Abelia Grandiflora Prostrata Abelia Prostrate White for Sale

Abelia Grandiflora ProstrataAbelia Grandiflora Prostrata is a semi-evergreen spreading shrub that grows low to the ground. It’s also known as Abelia × Grandiflora Prostrate White or more simply, Abelia Prostrate White due to its low growing ‘prostrate’ form. This low growing shrub is ‘semi-evergreen’ which means it will keep its pointed glossy green leaves in mild winters but lose them if it’s particularly harsh.Flowers appear in early summer and mature into white, sometimes pink-tinged, fragrant flowers on elegant arching branches. New flowers bloom all summer with protective red flower bracts which give the shrub a red and white appearance. Magnolia Grandiflora Maryland Evergreen Compact Magnolia

Magnolia Grandiflora Maryland Evergreen Compact Magnolia

Magnolia Grandiflora Maryland is a compact evergreen magnolia renowned for its large showy, fragranced flowers. Evergreen and elegant, this striking cultivar is an excellent choice for a specimen plant or mixed shrub borders. Like its deciduous cousins, Magnolia Grandiflora also produces massive showy flowers but tends to do this in summer rather than spring. The cultivar ‘Maryland’ differentiates itself by rounded, compact shrub (rather than tree) shape. With all the noteworthy qualities of its close relatives, this eye-catching cultivar has a few interesting differences. The lush foliage consists of glossy, broad, elliptic leaves, but unlike most bull bay Magnolias, Maryland doesn’t have a brown underside. Instead, the large, leathery leaves are light, olive green beneath, forming a rounded, compact shrub, rather than a tree. Although the foliage differentiates this cultivar from its evergreen cousins, the blossoms are as equally stunning as those of other Magnolia cultivars. In the summer, massive creamy white flowers grace this compact shrub. Large and goblet-shaped, the blossoms have a sweet, citrusy fragrance.Tolerant of full sun to partial shade, this flowering shrub thrives in moist but well-drained soil, rich in humus. When it comes to acidity, Magnolia Grandiflora Maryland prefers neutral to slightly acidic soils. Apart from being highly decorative, this ornamental shrub is quite robust. Fully hardy in Britain and Ireland, Magnolia Grandiflora Maryland can survive even when the temperatures drop to -20 degrees. However, to avoid potential damage from frost and biting winds, apply a layer of mulch during winter, and choose a sheltered location for planting.A cross between Magnolia Grandiflora and Magnolia Virginiana, the cultivar Maryland is quite fast growing, although it stays fairly compact even when fully mature. This evergreen shrub can grow to be 3 to 8 meters tall and 2 to 4 metres wide, which is, when compared to other Magnolia Grandiflora varieties, rather petite. With a rich, leathery foliage, elegant, compact form and clusters of aromatic blossoms, Magnolia Grandiflora Maryland is ideal as a focus or a specimen plant. Although this plant has a year-round interest, its graceful and sophisticated appearance is at its best in the summer, when this shrub is in full bloom. Consider planting this Magnolia variety in a mixed shrub border, either underplanted with low-growing flowering shrubs, or combined with medium-sized, evergreen bushes.See also our full range of Magnolia varieties we have available.

Magnolia Grandiflora Little Gem for Sale Online UK & Ireland

Magnolia Grandiflora Little Gem for Sale Online UK & Ireland

Magnolia Grandiflora Little GemThe appeal of the magnolia tree is timeless.  The Magnolia Grandiflora Little Gem is a dwarf tree version of the classic large and sprawling magnolia grandiflora. The tree’s petite compact growth makes it an ideal choice of ornamental evergreen tree for a small garden setting. These Magnolia Little Gems have been trained as three-quarter standard trees on clear stems. The Magnolia Grandiflora Little Gem features large, evergreen leaves that look eye-catching year round. The underside of each shiny dark green leaf is a burnished red shade. Once per year the tree produces huge, fragrant, white flowers in abundance. It is not uncommon for the tree to start producing flowers when it stands only 90 centimeters tall. Flowers appear in the summer and often persist for two months or more. After flowering, the tree produces cone-like fruiting clusters that are adorned with clusters of bright red seeds. Many people consider the cones of the tree to be every bit as visually appealing as the tree’s flowers.   Its compact size and slow growth habits makes it ideal to grow as a specimen tree or as part of a hedge. It can also be trained to grow as an espalier against a fence or wall. The tree has even become a popular container tree to be placed around patios, pools, decks and other space-conserving locations. When fully grown, the Magnolia Grandiflora Little Gem attains a height of around 10 meters with a width of around 3 to 4 meters. However, full growth is often not attained until the tree is 30 plus years old. Plant the Magnolia Grandiflora Little Gem in full sun for best growth. It flourishes in moist, rich, peat-filled soils. The tree does not tolerate drought and prefers evenly moist soil conditions. Ideally, the tree’s best growth is attained when it is planted in slightly acidic soil. However, it will tolerate clay soil but its growth habits might be stunted or slowed.  Even though the Magnolia Grandiflora Little Gem flourishes in heat and humidity, don’t let its affinity for warmth fool you. The tree can tolerate temperatures that dip to minus 17 Celsius for as short time. The Magnolia Grandiflora Little Gem requires very little care to flourish. It benefits from an application of fertilizer in the spring and it will tolerate springtime pruning. A tough hardy tree, the Magnolia Grandiflora Little Gem is a welcome addition to any garden. Its year round beauty makes it a focal point wherever it is planted.

Magnolia Grandiflora Goliath Buy Online UK wide and Ireland

Magnolia Grandiflora Goliath Buy Online UK wide and Ireland

Magnolia Grandiflora Goliath The magnolia in all its splendour is especially pronounced in the Goliath version of this beautiful Genus. Magnolia Grandiflora or the Bull Bay Magnolia Tree is an evergreen variety of Magnolia. The variety Goliath distinguishes itself from other evergreen magnolia trees by having a rounded bushy habit and also a very long flowering period. The Family Magnoliceae offers this Genus, Magnolia, which can grow as deciduous or evergreen trees or shrubs, with large, fragrant, showy blooms. Deciduous magnolias generally tend to flower even before the leaves unfurl. Magnolia Grandiflora Goliath sets itself apart as a rounded evergreen tree or large shrub, with glossy, leathery leaves of a dark green hue and about 25 centimetres in length. The flowers can be described as large, fragrant, goblet-shaped and pure white; which open from upright, pubescent and woolly buds at the end of the shoots. The huge flowers of the Magnolia Goliath will come out between mid and late summer and last well on into autumn.  Magnolia Grandiflora Goliath is so named after Pierre Magnol (1638-1715) who was a French Botany Professor; and Grandiflora, meaning large flower. Magnolia Goliath is appropriate to identify its tall growth habit, reaching an ultimate height of 15 metres and an ultimate spread between 4-8 metres; though if managed, it can spread to as far as 15 metres. It takes Magnolia Goliath between 20-50 years to reach its full growth. In terms of soil requirements, it will do best in any moist, well-drained soil condition across most soil textures. It will tolerate slightly alkaline soils, as well as drier soils, but prefers pH levels that are slightly acidic. Considered quite hardy, the Goliath will tolerate climates to hardiness zone H5 in the UK and Ireland. In terms of placement, it prefers full sun to partial shade; and a sheltered exposure. With this in mind, its preferred aspects would be listed from most favourable to least as South to North to West to East. The Magnolia Grandiflora Goliath tree is a popular choice in gardens, but due to its spreading habit, it is likely better suited to larger sites. With training, it can make a wonderful wall climber or grown as a tree or large shrub. For smaller gardens, take a look at Magnolia Grandiflora Little Gem, offered as a three quarter standard tree. This stunning evergreen has something to offer in all seasons. Its reddish-purple stems produce new foliage in variegated shades of green and yellow that turn gold in summer, and then brilliant red and orange in autumn and persist through the winter months. Abelia grandiflora Kaleidoscope develops pink buds in summer that open into fragrant, funnel-shaped pinkish-white flowers from mid-summer into the autumn, attracting bees and butterflies to your garden.Abelia grandiflora Kaleidoscope is hardy in most parts of the UK, even in severe winters, but in colder regions it may prove to be semi-evergreen. It will grow to a mature height of 0.5-1 metres and spread of 1-1.5 metres in 2 to 5 years. Deadhead spent blooms to extend the blooming period, and lightly trim the shrub in spring to maintain an attractive shape. Every 3 or 4 years, rejuvenate Abelia Kaleidoscope by hard pruning. Plant Abelia grandiflora Kaleidoscope in full sun in a sheltered position with a south, west, or east-facing aspect, in moist but well-drained sand, chalk, or loam soil. Abelia Kaleidoscope is salt tolerant, and so makes a good landscape shrub in coastal locations, and since it also tolerates pollution, it is a good choice for city gardeners. It is safe to plant in country gardens as it is deer-resistant. It is generally pest and disease free. This lovely little shrub can play a variety of roles in your planting schemes! The shelter of a courtyard will be a perfect spot for a specimen plant, and it makes a lovely addition to a mixed border. Abelia Kaleidoscope has it all: beautiful evergreen foliage changing with the seasons, fragrant, beautiful blooms, and a low-maintenance growth habit to make it the perfect choice for your garden!
