Vic Hoyland: WULF (B4 Study Score)

WULF (2012-14) by Vic Hoyland , for 24 voices and 24 instrumentalists. Duration: c. 60 minutes Part I - WULF Part II - NJAL Part III - YSÉ Part IV - BHATA Vic Hoyland spent more than a year assembling the texts, before writing the music. While fragments of Homer's Iliad are central, Vic has drawn on diverse conflict texts from Livy, Icelandic sagas, Anglo-Saxon poetry, Rumanian, Polish and Scottish folk songs, plus 1917 Arras military records. The work has a spatial dimension and requires occasional amplification of the voices.
