Citrus x Sinensis (Orange Trees) - Half Standard - 25 (litres)

Citrus x Sinensis (Orange Trees) - Half Standard - 25 (litres)

Citrus × Sinensis, also known as the Citrus Aurantium (Sweet Orange Group), includes the commonly cultivated sweet oranges, including blood oranges and navel oranges. The origin of the original plant is obscure to history but it is believed to have originated in southern Asia, particularly South China and Vietnam. The plant starts to bloom from Spring until Autumn. Producing delightfully fragrant fruit and blossom, orange trees are an interesting way of bringing rich colour to your garden. Susceptible to frost, oranges can be kept indoors during the winter months but must be situated in an area with plenty of sun. Tolerant of most soil types, they need lots of watering when the surrounding soil is dry but be careful not to over-water. Pruning can be done to encourage further growth and increased fruition. It has a low tolerance to cold weather being only a H3 on the hardiness scale, therefore it is best to keep this plant in warmer conditions the best you can. Stick to pruning group 1 for guidance on how to maintain this plant. The plant is generally disease free but be careful of potential pests. Citrus Limonum (Lemon Trees) - Half Standard - 25 (litres)

Citrus Limonum (Lemon Trees) - Half Standard - 25 (litres)

The Citrus Limonum, popularly known as Lemon Trees, are one of the most known plants to mankind for their ability to produce the delightful lemon fruit. The history of the origins of lemons is unknown although it is believed they were first grown in Assam, a region of northeast India, northern Burma or even China. Lemons and their associated trees started to enter Europe during the time of Ancient Rome, but they were not widely cultivated. The first major cultivation of these plants only started to take shape in Europe during the middle of the 15th century in Genoa, Italy. The most famous story of lemons though is of course Scottish doctor James Lind’s experiments on using vitamin C from lemons on seamen suffering from scurvy, hence the popular British nickname overseas as “Limey”. Our version of the lemon trees is now in Espalier fashion. Citrus are self fertile so once you have planted, a single plant should be able to produce fruit. The plant itself likes a lot of sunlight so feel free to let it grow outdoors during pleasant weather. However, bear in mind that the plant has a very low tolerance to cold and only comes up as H1c on the rating score, so make sure to keep some fleece or anything else you have at hand to keep the plant warm if the temperature suddenly drops at night time. It can be a good idea for year long growth to have an insulation room in your house with a strong UV light to help continue growing the plant. For maintenance, minimal pruning is required. Mature plants though may produce unwanted, fast growing shoots called “water shoots”. Remove these whenever possible. Be especially watchful for shoots below the graft of the main stem and remove such shoots immediately. Pests and disease can also be a problem with this plant so do take care. Citrus Limonum (Lemon Trees) - Half Standard - 10 (litres)

Citrus Limonum (Lemon Trees) - Half Standard - 10 (litres)

Nerium Oleander (East Indian Oleander) – Shrub - Extra

Nerium Oleander (East Indian Oleander) – Shrub - Extra

Nerium Oleander, commonly known as oleander; is a large evergreen ornamental shrub that has been cultivated since ancient times. The narrowly lanceolate are leathery and dark green. They usually grow in pairs or groups of three. The stem is covered with greyish bark and exudes sticky latex if it is cut. Oleander grows well in warm subtropical regions and is extensively used in the Mediterranean as an ornamental shrub in parks and gardens or informal hedge along roadsides. Make sure small children and pets are kept away from oleanders as all parts of the plant are highly toxic if eaten but not normally dangerous to touch though the latex can cause irritation in people who are allergic to it. The plant itself has a low hardiness rating of H3, making it unsuitable for the British winter time. Make sure to shelter it during any potential cold snaps. The plant is generally disease free but is prone to potential pests so take this into consideration. Stick to the guidelines of pruning group 9 for this plant. Leyland Cypress 'Gold Rider' (Cupressocyparis Leylandii) - Multi Buy - Multi Buy - CLT 80-90

A fast growing conifer which has bright yellow leaves that hold their colour all year round. The Gold Rider Cypress, named for its yellow/gold foliage is a common sight across the gardens of Britain. They require very little maintenance and can be left to grow on their own. However, if used for hedging, their dense leaves and branches will probably need to be trimmed each year to maintain the hedgerow's smooth shape and tidy appearance (if desired). All of our Hedging Plants allow you to style your garden in a range of different ways, not just because of their varied colours, but also because of the way you choose to trim and maintain them. Prune them regularly to achieve a neat, clean form, or let them bush-out a little to create a more natural appearance. Whether you're using a hedge to give your garden some privacy, or as protection from the weather, road and noise pollution, you'll want to choose a plant that complements the rest of your garden's visual appearance. Thuja Plicata Atrovirens (Western Red Cedar) - Multi Buy - Multi Buy - CLT 110-130

Thuja Plicata Atrovirens (Western Red Cedar) - Multi Buy - Multi Buy - CLT 110-130

A dark-green conifer that’s a popular choice for hedging and as a large specimen tree. The Western Red Cedar gets it name from its reddish-brown bark which flakes off throughout the year. Its richly coloured dark green leaves distinguish it from most other conifers (which tend to be more of a golden-yellow colour). As its branches get longer, they develop a gentle droop and have a pleasing clean/fresh fragrance. Western Red Cedar is a very impressive tree, that will bring a calm and majestic quality to your garden. All conifers are known for their hardiness and resilience against the elements. We often think of them being heavily covered with snow during the winter, but they can look equally as bold and impressive against a bright blue summer sky. Conifers get their name from the “cones” that they produce – which come in all shapes and sizes. Conifer leaves are evergreen and will either be needle-shaped or scale-like.
