Pyrus Communis Conference was introduced to the UK 1885 and it’s consistently performed well becoming an established favourite. Conference pear has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit and the Perfect for Pollinators badge for its attributes. In spring tiny white blossom appears on it’s bare branches. The blossom is sweetly scented and very attractive to pollinators. Medium-green oval leaves appear soon after. Small pears can be seen in summer, gradually maturing into the long thin pear with creamy flesh we all know and love. Harvest them in late autumn and ripen on a windowsill or store in a cool dry place until January. The foliage falls in winter leaving a strong pleached framework for the cold months. Our pleached pear trees are mature trees, trained on frames and trimmed to create a rectangle of foliage. The clean bare trunks leave space and let light through in smaller gardens. How Hardy Is Pleached Conference PearPyrus Communis Conference Pleached is hardy in the UK, having proved itself since here since 1885. It will survive sub-zero temperatures if the roots are well-drained.How To Use Pleached Conference PearPleached Pear trees are an excellent choice if you need above fence privacy screens and happen to enjoy tasty homegrown fruit. Planted in rows along the fence line they bring vertical interest and block out neighbours to create a private garden space. Their smaller root spread and controlled pleached crowns mean they don’t take up too much lateral room.Pleached pear trees can be used singly or in pairs to block out unsightly structures, and in larger spaces they look attractive lining a footpath or placed on either side of a feature. The springtime blossom attracts plenty of beneficial pollinators to increase biodiversity in wildlife-friendly gardens.
