Acer Freemanii Freemans Maple Mature Specimen Trees for Sale

Acer Freemanii Freemans Maple Mature Specimen Trees for Sale

Acer Freemanii or Freeman’s Maple is a large deciduous tree and a member of the maple family. A sturdy hybrid with a brilliant, red-orange autumn colour, it is a  hybrid cross of the Red Maple (Acer Rubrum)  and Silver Maple (Acer Saccharinum), both parents being Chicago natives. The resulting characteristics include excellent growth from Rubrum and fast growth rate from Saccharinum, combined with good autumn colour.Acer Freemanii was developed in the 1930’s at the United States National Arboretum. The large leaves, in the typical maple-leaf shape, are green in spring and summer, turning to brilliant shades of orange and red in autumn. The smooth, silvery bark has ornamental value in the winter months. Acer Freemanii will grow up to a mature height of 25 metres and spread of 15 metres in 25 to 50 years. The tree’s crown forms an upright, broad oval, and requires pruning only to remove dead or damaged branches. Its root system is shallow and as it matures will reach the soil surface, so planting near pavement should be avoided. If planting multiple specimens, place them 9-12 metres apart.Plant Acer Freemanii in full sun or partial shade in a sheltered position with any aspect, in moist but well-drained soil with an acid to neutral pH. It is particularly versatile in regards to soil moisture conditions, as it will tolerate both wet soil or even periods of standing water, as well as dry conditions once it is established! Tolerant of pollution, Freeman’s Maple is a good tree for city planting. Acer Freemanii should be kept out of very windy locations, as the branches can be brittle and prone to break if not sheltered.A single specimen of Acer Freemanii can make an excellent focal point in a medium to large lawn, where the dense canopy will provide good shade during the summer months, and then the brilliant autumn foliage will be the centre of attention as the season ends. On a larger country property, a row of Freeman’s Maple along an avenue will be ornamental throughout the year. A grouping in the landscape will be especially striking during the autumn foliage display.Choose Acer Freemanii if you are looking for a hardy ornamental landscape tree, whether in the city or country (as resistant to deer). Acer Tataricum Ginnala. Armur Maple Ginnala Tree for Sale UK

Acer Tataricum Ginnala. Armur Maple Ginnala Tree for Sale UK

Acer Tataricum Ginnala is a popular maple tree that’s incredibly hardy, easy to care for and appreciated for its display of beautiful vivid scarlet leaves in the autumn. It’s also known as the Amur Maple Ginnala. In spring the Acer Tataricum Ginnala produces dense vivid green leaves that are three-lobed and mid-sized. Often these leaves are a lighter shade of green beneath. These last throughout the spring and summer months accompanied in late summer by small white flowers that turn into clusters of red-tinged ‘helicopter’ seeds. With September the Acer Tataricum Ginnala morphs into that famous rich crimson-red leaf that we all love. The Acer Tataricum Ginnala is naturally dome-shaped in its young bush form and retains this pleasing shape as it grows to a maximum height of approximately eight metres.Amur Maple Ginnala Hardiness LevelsAmur Maple Ginnala is one of the hardiest varieties of Acer available. It thrives in almost all conditions tolerating most soils and sun levels, but will do best when grown in free-draining soil with plenty of sunlight on its foliage. How To Use Acer Tataricum GinnalaAmur Maple Ginnala is a versatile tree that can be grown directly in the ground as a stunning specimen. Because it has relatively shallow roots compared to some native trees, it’s a good choice for areas with ground work or close to a building. Alternatively you can grow Acer Tataricum Ginnala in a large container to keep it relatively small and move it around your garden. All Maple trees look stunning by water. If you have a pond try growing Acer Tataricum Ginnala nearby. Another use for Acer Tataricum Ginnala is to plant individual specimens a few feet apart as a colourful deciduous hedge. How To Care For Your Amur Maple GinnalaAmur Maple Ginnala performs well in most soils and situations but it does prefer sun or partial shade. If you can provide this you will be rewarded with an even more spectacular foliage display. Acidic or neural soils suit best as alkaline soil can impede Acer growth; however Acer Tataricum Ginnala is incredibly tolerant and will cope with most soil conditions. Mulch with organic matter for nourishment and you’ll reap the benefit of jewelled foliage from spring to late autumn. Younger plants also benefit from wind protection and shade from direct sun that can cause leaf scorch. If you want to grow your young Acer Tataricum Ginnala into a tree specimen you will need to chose a central leader stem and cut away all others to form a trunk. Bush specimens can be left alone, although it’s best to cut out any dead or crossing branches in winter. Amur Maple Ginnala is a real winner for the mid-sized garden. It’s a hardy, versatile and popular tree that’s worth its weight in gold for its fresh green spring display and fiery autumnal foliage.

Field Maple Trees for Sale. Acer Campestre. Hedge Maple

Field Maple Trees for Sale. Acer Campestre. Hedge Maple

The Field Maple, Latin name Acer Campestre, originating from Europe and parts of Asia, is the only maple tree that is native to the UK. Throughout British countryside, the Hedge Maple, as it is also known, can often be found in fields and hedgerows. In the winter season we also have Acer Campestre available in bare root form. A deciduous, low maintenance tree, the Field Maple has large mid-green foliage, the leaves having 5 lobes. It is in fact, not dissimilar to the Acer Pseudoplatanus (or the Sycamore Tree). It flowers in spring producing tiny green flowers and afterwards produces helicopter winged fruit. In autumn, the foliage turns yellow or red. The bark can take on a somewhat corky texture.Left to its own devices, Acer Campestre is a medium-sized, slow growing tree that will generally reach 7 to 10 metres height and spread. It has a nice, compact, bushy growth habit. Although deciduous and slow growing, it is not averse to being clipped and is thus sometimes used for creating hedges, particularly mixed hedgerows. In terms of aspect, the hedge or field maple will grow in full sun or partial shade. It also growths well in coastal locations.Timber from the field maple tends to be white in colour and is highly sought after particularly for musical instruments. It is widely believed that the acclaimed luthier Stradivari used Acer Campestre which grew naturally in the alpine forests of Northern Italy to make his instruments. These forests are still alive and well today – and are known as the Musical Woods (Il Bosco Che Suona). The field maple has an RHS award of garden merit.

Acer Platanoides Norway Maple Multi Stem Trees Root Balled

Acer Platanoides, which is commonly known as the Norway Maple, is a large and fast-growing deciduous tree with striking autumnal foliage. Norway Maple’s five-lobed foliage emerges bright green in spring and turns a deeper shade over the summer months. It is a stunning autumnal tree when the leaves turn bright yellow and orange with hints of red. Because the leaves are so large, measuring 20 cm, the colours are particularly noticeable. It also holds the RHS Perfect for Pollinators title for its attractive sweet-smelling clusters of small yellow flowers that adorn its bare branches in racemes before leaf growth. During the winter months this deciduous tree holds a pleasing architectural shape that gives height to a low-growing garden. There are many varieties of Norway Maple, such as Acer Platanoides Crimson Sentry with its disctinctive red leaves throughout the growing season and Norway Maple Drummondii with variegated summer foliage. However this regular variety is a multi stem Norway Maple with golden autumnal foliage. This means it has been shaped to grow on several stems rather than one thick leader trunk. Acer Negundo Box Elder Tree Mature Trees for Sale Online UK

Acer Negundo Box Elder Tree Mature Trees for Sale Online UK

Acer Negundo Box Elder TreeThe Acer Negundo, commonly called the Box Elder tree, is a type of maple tree. It is exceptionally hardy and tough. Box Elder trees often grow where other trees fail such as in bottomlands and areas that frequently flood. It is native to much of the United States and commonly found growing prolifically along streambanks and around other bodies of water. The Box Elder Tree is a popular, fast growing bushy headed mid to large sized deciduous tree. We sell these specimens as mature trees. The foliage of the Acer Negundo features pinnate leaves that have five to nine leaflets. Each leaflet measures up to 10 centimeters in length and 7 centimeters in width. The top sides of the leaves are a bright green and the undersides are a shade lighter. The margins of the leaves are slightly serrated. The new growth shoots of the Box Elder are ornamental and appear a bright, mint green. They often also feature a light white, purple, or pink coating when young. In the early spring, nondescript flowers appear that droop in racemes that measure up to 20 centimeters in length. Following flowering, seeds develop. The seeds are slender samaras that measure about 2 centimeters in length and grow in clusters. Many people think that the clusters of seeds resemble a bunch of keys hanging on a key ring. Only female trees produce the seed clusters. During the autumn months, the seeds provide visual interest until they drop from the tree. The tree's autumn colours are either bright yellow in areas with cold winters or a more bronze-orange in regions with mild winters. The Box Elder tree grows rapidly to a height of almost 25 metres with a canopy width of equal proportion which makes it an ideal shade choice. It is also commonly used in shelterbelts or to stabilize flood-prone areas such as along rivers. The diameter of the Acer Negundo’s trunk is relatively slender and rarely exceeds 50 centimeters in diameter. These trees are sold root-balled with a multi-stem shape or form. The several trunks can form a virtually impenetrable barrier when fully grown.Plant the Box Elder in full sun for best growth. Ideally, it should receive at least six hours of sun or more per day. Although this tree is stalwart and succeeds where very few other trees will survive, it still requires good care to establish a strong root system. It should be planted in an area that provides it with plenty of room to grow to its full potential. If you are seeking a tenacious tree that adapts to a variety of situations, then look no further than the Acer Negundo. Its rapid growth and ability to tolerate adverse conditions makes it a perfect low maintenance shade tree choice. See also Acer Negundo Kelly's Gold and Acer Negundo Flamingo.

Acer Negundo Aureomarginatum Box Elder Aureomarginatum

Acer Negundo Aureomarginatum Box Elder Aureomarginatum

Acer Negundo Aureomarginatum or Box Elder AureomarginataThe Acer Negundo aureomarginatum is a variegated form of a Box Elder tree. It only reaches 7 meters in height when fully grown and its diminutive sizes makes it an ideal tree for small gardens. It can be grown either as a single stem or multi-stem tree. Box Elder Aureomarginata grows at a rapid rate. It is a long-living deciduous tree and should flourish in the garden for at least fifty or more years.Variegated leaves are the true focal point of the small tree. The pinnate leaves have a yellowish-white coloured margin and the interior is a bright green. Plant this tree beside evergreens or other darker plants to create visual contrast in the garden and to truly appreciate its lovely variegated foliage. During the autumn, the foliage typically turns yellow before falling from the tree to reveal interesting pale grey branches. During the spring and early summer, the tree does flower and bear tiny fruit but they offer no ornamental significance and are often completely overlooked. The small Box Elder grows best when planted in full sun or partial shade. It is a hardy little tree and will tolerate a wide array of soil types and pH levels. However, it does not like overly wet feet, so you should pick a well-draining planting site. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and often thrives where more delicate trees perish. After planting the tree, keep the root system moist but not overly wet for the first year to encourage strong root growth. Once the tree has established itself, it will readily tolerate periods of brief drought.Typically, the Acer negundo Aureomarginatum does not require extensive pruning, but if you wish to trim the tree to maintain its size then the pruning should be done in the summer after the leaves have fully matured. The tree should not be pruned in the winter or spring because it is prone to bleeding sap. Most variegated trees are prone to reversion which means that the tree’s dominant characteristic of growing solid green leaves can take over. If the tree grows a branch that only has solid green foliage and the leaves boast no variegation than the limb should be pruned to maintain the tree’s variegated characteristics. The tree often sprouts at the base so it can be grown as a large oval-shaped shrub. If you wish the Box Elder to remain a single stem specimen then promptly remove any shoots from the base of the tree as they appear. The Box Elder Aureomarginata is a German cultivar. Its history can be traced back to 1883. The small tree has stood the test of time and still remains a garden favourite. It is a wonderful choice for an accent tree, focal specimen, or to provide modest shade. We also sell the Acer Negundo Flamingo which is also a variety of variegated box elder.
