Cryptomeria Japonica Sekkan Sugi Japanese Cedar

Cryptomeria Japonica Sekkan Sugi Japanese Cedar

It’s a sturdy but beautiful small to medium-sized conifer for urban and country gardens.Cryptomeria Japonica is the Japanese cedar. It’s native to Japan where it’s been cultivated and crossbred for centuries. The cultivar Cryptomeria Japonica Sekkan Sugi was raised there in the 1900s. It retains Japanese cedar’s tough and attractive characteristics, but it’s a more manageable size for gardens with the addition of colour-changing foliage and unusual cockscombs. Its semi-pendulous branches hold soft awl-shaped leaves that emerge creamy-yellow and mature to dark green with yellow highlights in winter, hence its name Sekken, which is Japanese for yellow. In autumn, dark brown cones dangle from the branch tips.Cryptomeria Japonica Sekkan Sugi is also called Cryptomeria Japonica Sekkan and Cryptomeria Japonica Cristata.Height and Spread of Cryptomeria Japonica Sekkan SugiCryptomeria Japonica Cristata is slow growing, eventually maturing into a cone shape. It reaches four by two metres over 10 years. How Hardy Is Cryptomeria Japonica Sekkan SugiThis is a hardy conifer in well-drained but moist soil. Any free-draining fertile soil is suitable. Pruning isn’t required, but as with all plants, a thick layer of well-rotted organic mulch around its root in spring provides nutrients for the growing season and traps moisture.Be sure to water Japanese Cedar Sekkan Sugi well until you see new growth.

Sophora Japonica Regent Japanese Pagoda Regent for Sale

Sophora Japonica Regent Japanese Pagoda Regent for Sale

Sophora Japonica Regent or Japanese Pagoda Regent is a cultivar of the Japanese Pagoda tree which was developed at the Princeton Nurseries in the United States in 1964. This fast-growing deciduous tree forms a broad, rounded, semi-open crown. In spring, it will be one of the last trees to leaf out, waiting until late May for the narrow, pinnate glossy dark green leaves to emerge, providing dappled shade throughout the summer months and then turning a pale yellow before they fall in autumn. The Japanese Pagoda Regent tree differs from other Sophora Japonica cultivars as it flowers at an earlier age, possibly as soon as five years. The fragrant creamy-white flowers appear in late summer, hanging in drooping clusters up to 30 cm in length. The long-lasting flowers are followed by green pods up to 20 cm long, which turn brown and persist into the winter. Height and Spread of Sophora Japonica RegentSophora Japonica Regent will rapidly grow to a mature height of 12-15 metres and spread of 8-10 metres, with an annual growth of up to 60 centimetres or more per year. How Hardy Is Sophora Japonica Regent?Japanese Pagoda Regent is hardy throughout most of the UK, even in severe winters. How to Use Sophora Japonica RegentJapanese Pagoda Regent is an excellent tree for city use, and can be used as a specimen tree in a lawn, where grass can grow under its dappled shade, or planted alongside a roadway to create a living barrier. Planted close to a patio, you will have the benefit of both the summer shade and the fragrant flowers of the Japanese Pagoda Regent tree. How to Care for Sophora Japonica RegentPlant Japanese Pagoda Regent in full sun in an exposed or sheltered position in well-drained sand, loam or chalk soil. Tolerant of salt spray, it can be used on coastal properties, and its high tolerance for urban pollution and paving makes it a very popular choice for city gardens. Once the Japanese Pagoda Regent tree is established it is very drought-tolerant, and in fact will suffer in too wet a soil. Pruning is not necessary to maintain the attractive rounded shape of the crown, but if desired, it should be done in early spring. Sophora Japonica Regent is an excellent landscape or ornamental shade tree for UK gardens. It is drought and pollution tolerant with the bonus of fragrant flowers in summer.

Camellia Japonica Adolphe Audusson. Red flowering buy UK

Camellia Japonica Adolphe Audusson. Red flowering buy UK

Camellia Japonica Adolphe Audusson - Full Standard TreeCamellia Adolphe Audusson is one of the best known of the Camellia Japonica varieties, originating from France in 1910. Renowned for good reason, Camellia Adolphe Audusson has glossy dark green foliage and spectacular blood red flowers with striking golden stamens. The flowers appear en masse, covering the entire crown of the tree and producing a magnificent display in Spring.Depending on your location the buds can start to bloom as early as February and March and the prolific blooms will continue flowering right through until May.Camellia Adolphe Audusson is hardy variety to around -15C and is a beautiful evergreen shrub, our specimens are rare full standard trees. These are trained with a clear stem and a full crown and look stunning especially when in full bloom.Camellias need to be grown in acidic soil to really thrive, if your soil is not acidic, Camellias will grow in containers using ericaceous soil. They need feeding a couple of times a year with liquid 'Camellia feed' and do need to be kept watered (not waterlogged!). In late summer to early Autumn it is very important to not let your Camellia dry out - this is the time of year when buds are forming for next year's display.Camellia Adolphe Audusson is hardy and a very reliable variety. The pretty, bright red flowers, are circa 11cm in diameter, they form as semi-double blooms with 12 petals formed in 3 rounds with a crown of golden stamens at the centre, some of these may develop as petaloid stamens. Where to plant - Camellias don't like cold, dry winds, it is best to plant in a sheltered location. We recommend avoiding an easterly aspect, the cold morning sun from the east, during the winter months, is hard for Camellias to bear. Camellias can be planted at any time of the year as long as the ground is not frosted. Best time to plant is in late Autumn when the ground is still warm from the summer. Give them a good mulch every year and carefully dead-head the flowers after blooming. Remember, Camellia Adolphe Audusson is a relatively slow growing variety so a light prune to keep in shape once a year is all that is required.
