Acer Palmatum Dissectum. Japanese Maple Dissectum. Acer Dissectum

Acer Palmatum Dissectum. Japanese Maple Dissectum. Acer Dissectum

Acer Palmatum Dissectum is a low growing dissectum variety of Japanese Maple with lacey fine leaves. The dissectum variety of Acer Palmatum tends to be smaller than the more upright Palmatum. Typically, Acer Palmatum Dissectum has a cascading weeping habit that becomes all the more stately as the plant matures. Dissectum is also a reference to the deeply cut (dissected) feathery texture of the foliage. Acer Palmatum Dissectum has deeply lobed palmate leaves and is often referred to as the Lace-leaf Maple.Possibly the best known and familiar form of Japanese Acer in the UK, Dissectum occurs naturally in the wilds of Japan with either green or red foliage. There are also various named cultivars such as Acer Dissectum Crimson Queen and Acer Palmatum Dissectum Garnet,  both of which have notable red-foliage. Green-leaved dissectum varieties include Acer palmatum Emerald Lace.In winter, the sculpted shape of the bark adds striking architectural interest. As Japanese acers go, Acer Palmatum Dissectum is a smaller, more rounded form and tends to be slow-growing. Many varieties of the dissectum group of Japanese maples mature at 5 metres or less. They rarely attain great heights so they are not classed as shade trees.Japanese Maple Dissectum is fully is hardy throughout the UK. These tough little trees tolerate very harsh cold winters. Japanese Maple Dissectum are excellent specimen plants especially in smaller gardens. As they won’t get overly large, Acer Palmatum Dissectum makes a good container plant and can be very attractive on balconies and roof terraces. Also very useful as companion plants in a mixed border. Japanese Maple Dissectum does not like to dry out. This tends to happen especially when they are grown in pots, which is often the case given their slow growth rate and small overall size. So extra care must be taken if you keep these trees containerised to make sure they are properly watered. Mulch is recommended to increase the moisture around the plant. In terms of aspect, sheltered, shadier areas are recommended. They will grow well in a neutral to acid soil. When young, Acer Palmatum Dissectum grows more vigorously and it is at this time that they can be shaped and pruned if desired. It will need room to spread as it matures so it can achieve its natural cascading shape.

Acer Palmatum Extravaganza. Japanese Maple Extravaganza

Acer Palmatum Extravaganza is a new small-growing deciduous Japanese Maple with pink, cream and red foliage that suits sheltered borders and can be grown in plant containers. Acer palmatum are Japanese Maples that are native to Japan but grown right across the world. There are many cultivars on the market. Japanese Maple Extravaganza was bred by Dutch plant growers Van Son & Koot for its multi-hued filigree foliage and small growth habit. In spring new 5-7 lobed foliage emerges on bare branches in a vivid pink flush alongside tiny inconspicuous flowers in April and May. Over the summer, leaves soften to warm shades of red and green with distinctive streaks of warm cream. In autumn red-tinged winged seed pods fall with the fiery dramatic red leaves to reveal ornamental reddish-green stems. The shape of Extravaganza’s foliage is the most unusual aspect. It’s deeply divided into separate fingers with gently serrated edges that dance in the breeze. When paired up with other Japanese Acer varieties such as Acer Palmatum Little Red, its foliage stands out for its texture and distinctive streaks.Japanese Acer Extravaganza is an excellent choice of tree for small gardens because it’s low-growing and endlessly colourful.Height And Spread of Acer Palmatum ExtravaganzaThis acer has a gently spreading habit and reaches a maximum of 1.5 metres in height and spread. How Hardy Is Acer Palmatum ExtravaganzaJapanese Acer Extravaganza is fully hardy in the UK if the roots are well-drained but needs shelter from the harsh sun and the prevailing winds to thrive.  Pests are rarely a problem. How To Use Acer Palmatum ExtravaganzaThis is an excellent choice for containers on the decking, patio or balcony because it doesn’t grow too large. It also suits sheltered rockeries, Japanese gardens, leafy low maintenance borders, and makes a fine architectural specimen acer in an urban courtyard. This easy-care acer brings a splash of colour from spring to autumn and complements other colourful foliage plants, standing out with its textured foliage and splashed cream leaves. How To Care for Acer Palmatum ExtravaganzaJapanese Acer Extravaganza needs preferably neutral to acidic well-drained soil in a position sheltered from harsh winds and direct sun that can scorch its foliage. A sheltered west or east-facing spot in partial shade encourages the best leaf colour. It won’t require regular pruning but wait until the dormant winter months to cut away any dead or broken branches. For the best leaf colour, apply organic mulch in spring for the growing season and then again in autumn to protect the shallow roots from drying out. Acer Palmatum Emerald Lace

Acer Palmatum Emerald Lace

Acer palmatum Emerald Lace Acer palmatum Emerald Lace is a deep green cultivar of the Japanese maple with three-season beauty in the garden, which grows quickly to its mature size. The RHS has given it the Award of Garden Merit because of its value to U.K. gardeners. When Japanese Maple Emerald Lace’s finely dissected, lacy leaves unfurl in the spring, they are a bright yellow-green, sometimes with orange edges, contrasting with the red petioles, before turning a deep and intense emerald shade during the summer months, and then finishing with a bright, strong red in the autumn. Its drooping branches create a soft silhouette. While it does produce small purplish flowers in the spring, followed by red fruits in the late summer, its value for the gardener is in its beautiful leaves. Fully hardy in the U.K., Japanese Maple Emerald Lace can grow as much as a metre in one year, and will reach its mature height and spread of 4 metres in ten years, making it an ideal tree to fill in a bare garden spot quickly.  It needs little or no annual pruning to maintain its shape. Like all the Japanese maples, Acer palmatum Emerald Lace does best in well-drained moist rich clay, sand or loam soil, with an acid to neutral ph. It will thrive in full sun or partial shade, and does best in a sheltered position, with an east, south, or west exposure. Because of its moderate size at maturity, Japanese Maple Emerald Lace will do well as a container planting or in a courtyard setting, where its striking foliage will be shown off to good advantage.  It also makes an excellent specimen tree for a focal point in the lawn, since its colour is so distinctive throughout the growing season. Acer Palmatum Emerald Lace can also play a role at the back of a mixed border, with the changing colour of its leaves and lacy texture providing a lovely backdrop for the flowers taking centre stage, and giving some structure to the border even in winter months with its graceful pendulous branches. It also can be planted as a part of a mixed hedge border or as an understory tree in a wooded landscape, as it will tolerate partial shade. Wherever it is planted, it will quickly grow and give to your landscape its graceful shape and brilliant 3 seasons of colour, with little care required in return!

Acer Palmatum Dissectum Firecracker Japanese Maple for Sale

Acer Palmatum Dissectum Firecracker Japanese Maple for Sale

Acer Palmatum Dissectum Firecracker or Japanese Maple FirecrackerThe Acer Palmatum Firecracker is part of the Dissectum maple group. It is sometimes referred to as the Japanese Maple Firecracker. It grows as a compact tree or small mounding shrub. When fully grown, it will reach a height of up to 4 meters and a width of 4 meters. It typically takes between ten to twenty years to reach its full growth potential. Once established, Acer Firecracker known for its longevity and can easily live over 100 years with proper care. The deciduous Japanese Maple Firecracker features palmate, finely cut, deeply lobed foliage that emerges in the spring in shades of purple and red. Over the summer months, the leaves maintain their unusual reddish-purple iridescence. During the autumn, Acer palmatum Firecracker puts on an outstanding colour show as its feathery foliage turns to brilliant hues of orange and red. The Japanese Maple Firecracker isn’t overly particular about soil conditions. It will grow well in acidic or neutral soil that is deep, moist and well-draining. If exposed to excessively dry soil, it can suffer from leaf scorch. For best growth, choose a planting location that affords partial shade to obtain optimum leaf colouration. However, the hardy little Acer Palmatum Firecracker can tolerate full sun. In regions that suffer from frequent frost or damaging winds, consider planting this Acer in an area of the garden that affords some protection. During the first year of growth in the ground (or container), it is advised that you keep the soil evenly moist and refrain from subjecting the shrub to any form of drought. The moist soil will help encourage a strong and diverse root system that firmly anchors the vigorous shrub. The diminutive size and slow growth of this variety of Japanese Acer make it an ideal plant suitable for pots. It can live happily for many years without requiring transplanting. For best growth, pick a pot that is at least twice as large as its root system. The pot should have drainage holes in the base to allow the water to move away from the roots. Place the container near a patio, walkway or on a balcony where the plant’s unique colours can be enjoyed. When grown in tree form, it is suggested that you stake the tree during the first one to two years of growth to strengthen its central leader. Japanese Maple Firecracker requires little or no pruning. However, it will tolerate an annual trimming to maintain size or shape. A light pruning can be done in the summer, but if you opt to prune the shrub more severely than it is suggested that the Acer be pruned in February before the foliage emerges. Japanese Acers love of deep moist soil and Firecracker is no exception. It is an ideal choice to plant beside a small ornamental pond where its unusual foliage shading can reflect in the water. Its delicate appearance also makes it a good shrub for a formal or cottage style garden. If you are looking for a shrub or small tree that boasts unusual foliage shades during the spring, summer and autumn, then look no further than the Acer palmatum Firecracker to create visual interest.
