Cryptomeria Japonica Globosa Nana (Japanese Cedar) – Ball

Cryptomeria Japonica Globosa Nana (Japanese Cedar) – Ball

A perfect low maintenance topiary ball from clipped Cryptomeria Japonica Globosa Nana Japanese Red Cedar. Available in a range of sizes from 20-80 cm in diameter. Japanese Red Cedar is a very pretty evergreen shrub. It has bright green foliage that has a tint of yellow when young, before maturing to green with a tint of purple in the winter. Similar in appearance to some of GardenPlantOnline's many topiary plants, the Japanese Red Cedar actually requires much less maintenance because of its slow growth-speed and it is also better suited to the British climate. All conifers are known for their hardiness and resilience against the elements. We often think of them being heavily covered with snow during the winter, but they can look equally as bold and impressive against a bright blue summer sky. Conifers get their name from the "cones" that they produce – which come in all shapes and sizes. Conifer leaves are evergreen and will either be needle-shaped or scale-like. Latin Name: Cryptomeria Japonica Globosa Nana English Name: Japanese Cedar, Japanese Red Cedar Species: Conifer Genus: Cryptomeria (part of the Cedrus/Cedar and Cupressaceae/Cypress families) Foliage Type: Evergreen. Liriope Muscari Variegata (Variegated Lilyturf)

Liriope Muscari Variegata (Variegated Lilyturf)

Similar to the Big Blue Lilyturf, but with leaves that are bright green and feature cream-coloured stripes. The Variegated Lilyturf has a more fun and informal appearance than its ‘sensible’ and ‘sophisticated’ cousin. The cream-coloured streaks which run the length of its leaves come in a variety of thicknesses, which gives each one of its leaves a unique appearance. The flowers of Variegated Lilyturf are purple in colour and may remind you of a Hyacinth’s bloom. Ornamental Grasses are chosen for their decorative qualities and whether used indoors or outdoors, they can bring a striking diversity to your garden. From round shrubs to tall walls of quivering spikes, ornamental grasses bring new shapes and textures that will contrast against the twisted roots of trees and the blooms of traditional plants and flowers. They are also becoming increasingly popular due to their hardiness against the British weather and their ability to hold their colour through autumn and winter. Agave Americana Variegata (Variegated Century Plant)

Agave Americana Variegata (Variegated Century Plant)

Commonly known as the Century Plant or American Aloe. Specimens even survive in pots or in the ground in the wet winters of the south coast of England. At the other extreme it may be seen planted out in southern Arizona and Texas. They are usually cultivated outdoors in rock gardens as well as cactus and succulent gardens. They are often used in Mediterranean-style landscapes, in borders, or as a specimen plant. They require full sun and a very well-drained, slightly acidic, sandy or gravely soil. As an ornamental it is also grown in containers where it stays much smaller than its outdoor brethren. The Agave Americana grows fairly fast in summer if provided with copious water but allow thorough drying before watering again. During the winter months, one should only water enough to keep the leaves from shrivelling. They do well in full sun or a lightly shaded area. Arundo Donax Variegata (Variegated Giant Reed)

Arundo Donax Variegata (Variegated Giant Reed)

The colourful cousin of the Spanish Cane – its long green leaves are decorated with multiple white bands. This contrast between bright white stripes in a range of thicknesses, and the dark green pigment of its leaves, gives the Variegated Giant Reed an exciting (even explosive) appearance. Its maximum height is only half that of Spanish Cane and its growth habit is not so ladder-like. It does have the same feathery pink flowers in autumn (if you’re lucky). Latin Name: Arundo Dorax Variegata English Name: Variegated Giant Reed Species: Poaceae Genus: Arundo Foliage Type: Evergreen. Foliage: Green and White. Flower: Pink. Flowering Period: Autumn. Hedera are evergreen climbing shrubs clinging by aerial roots. Clusters of small yellow-green flowers are followed by usually black berries. Foliage of flowering shoots is often less deeply lobed than that of the sterile, climbing shoots. H. hibernica is a vigorous large evergreen climber with broad, 5-lobed dark green leaves to 12 cm in width. Small greenish flowers in umbels are followed by black berries. The plant itself is hardy for the British climate at H5 and only needs sheltering in an extreme cold snap. The plant is prone to potential diseases and pests so take care. The plant can grow in full shade. Ilex Aquifolium 'Argenteomarginata' (Variegated English Holly) - Shrub

Ilex Aquifolium 'Argenteomarginata' (Variegated English Holly) - Shrub

Dark green leaves edged with cream make this a brighter alternative to Common English Holly. Silver Holly has less of a Christmassy-feel than the Common English Holly available elsewhere on GardenPlantsOnline, thanks mostly to its colourful, variegated leaves. It's a popular choice all across the UK, thanks to its weather resistance and its ability to brighten up shady corners. A good choice for creating thick privacy screens that will also help to keep out pests (animal or otherwise). All of our Hedging Plants allow you to style your garden in a range of different ways, not just because of their varied colours, but also because of the way you choose to trim and maintain them. Prune them regularly to achieve a neat, clean form, or let them bush-out a little to create a more natural appearance. Whether you're using a hedge to give your garden some privacy, or as protection from the weather, road and noise pollution, you'll want to choose a plant that complements the rest of your garden's visual appearance. All of our Hedging Plants have evergreen foliage – giving you some pleasant greenery to look at all-year-round.
