Iris and the Giant is a mix of a collectible card game (CCG) and a roguelike. This is the debut work of the French creator Louis Rigaud, who released an early version in the form of a free browser game. The full edition has been published by the Goblinz studio.
In the game we play the title Iris, who goes with her father to swimming lessons. On the way there, the protagonist feels that something is on her mind, although she herself does not know what. After all, at the pool, the girl can't help but feel depressed almost literally overwhelming her. So Iris sets out on a journey into her own mind to face her fears.
Gameplay in Iris and the Giant is based on turn-based skirmishes. Our goal is to break through hordes of enemies (including bosses) and reach the top of the stairs leading to the next location. In the clashes, we must be careful about the heroine's health, represented by her willpower. In combat, we use a deck of cards that we get for victories and find in chests scattered here and there. It is thanks to the cards that we perform all actions: ranged or close attacks, hitting single enemies or the entire row, etc. In case of failure, we lose almost all our progress so far and have to start all over again.
In addition to the cards, perks that give us various bonuses, for example more health points, will also come to our aid. Besides, each approach can unlock additional support. The stars scattered across the levels allow you to fill a special bar after death, which allows you to get gifts - bonuses, which are transferred to the next session. In turn, for various achievements, we unlock friends with useful skills. Finally, during the adventure, we have a chance to find souvenirs that can turn the game upside down. Thanks to them, playing certain types of cards will not end our turn, we will find other loot in chests than usual, etc.
