Valiant Hearts: The Great War is an action adventure game set during the First World War with a cartoon, two-dimensional graphic design. Ubisoft Montpellier studio is responsible for the creation of the title, which has, among others, very successful two-dimensional arcade games Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends. The plot tells the story of four people whose fates intertwine in the trenches of the Western Front. Here we have a French farmer forced to serve in the military, an American volunteer seeking private revenge, a Belgian paramedic trying to find his missing father, and a German infantryman who was separated from his family. The factor that connects all these characters is a kind dog, which has the interesting ability to direct events in people's lives on the right track and a desire to return to normal life as soon as possible. The story takes place over the years 1914-1918, and the individual stages take place in different chronological periods. Interestingly, the plot is heavily based on authentic letters from soldiers from World War I. The nature of the game depends to a large extent on the character you control at the moment. The game therefore offers both dexterity and those in which we have to strain gray cells. In addition to the sequences that require fast and efficient movement, there are also more or less complex puzzles to solve, and even scenes straight from stealth, when we pass unnoticed by our opponents, distracting them with thrown stones. Exploration elements have also been implemented, moreover, we can often count on the company of the aforementioned four-legged friend to help us. When creating this title, the UbiArt Framework engine was used (known for example from the aforementioned Rayman games), so we are dealing here with a very aesthetic and atmospheric visual setting, reminiscent of a comic book. Despite the fact that the story told in Valiant Hearts is extremely sad, the developer made sure that the production could also bring a smile to our faces. The events of the years 1914-1918 were presented in a somewhat caricatured - this is especially visible in the designs of characters that fully reflect the stereotypes attributed to their nationalities (for example, the Germans are great beer lovers here and constantly indulge in this golden drink).
