Men Masculinities and Intermarriage in Ezra 9-10

Men Masculinities and Intermarriage in Ezra 9-10

Offering a reading of the intermarriage debate and expulsion of the foreign women in Ezra 9-10 this book engages with the production and performance of masculinities in this biblical text shifting the focus away from the 'foreign women' to the men who are the primary actors in this work. This approach addresses the diversity of masculinities and the ways in which they are implicated in the production of power relations in the text. It explores the ‘feminized’ masculinity of the peoples-of-the-lands the unstable masculinity of the golah Ezra’s performance of penitential masculinity and the rehabilitation of divine masculinity. The rejection of the marriages and the call for the expulsion of the women and children are addressed as sites on which masculinities and power relations are configured. In doing so this book sheds light on how women and the traits and performances culturally ascribed to women femininity and inferior masculinities are appropriated to produce masculinities and negotiate power relations between men. It posits that the debate in Ezra 9-10 is not ultimately about the women themselves but about bringing the masculinities bodies and practices of dissenting men under the ‘management’ of those who wield the Torah in the narrative world of the text. Men Masculinities and Intermarriage in Ezra-9-10 is of interest for scholars and students working on the Book of Ezra specifically as well as the Hebrew Bible and its world more broadly. It is also a valuable study for those working on masculinities and gender in the biblical world and ancient Near East. | Men Masculinities and Intermarriage in Ezra 9-10

Versatile Video Coding

Versatile Video Coding

Video is the main driver of bandwidth use accounting for over 80 per cent of consumer Internet traffic. Video compression is a critical component of many of the available multimedia applications it is necessary for storage or transmission of digital video over today's band-limited networks. The majority of this video is coded using international standards developed in collaboration with ITU-T Study Group and MPEG. The MPEG family of video coding standards begun on the early 1990s with MPEG-1 developed for video and audio storage on CD-ROMs with support for progressive video. MPEG-2 was standardized in 1995 for applications of video on DVD standard and high definition television with support for interlaced and progressive video. MPEG-4 part 2 also known as MPEG-2 video was standardized in 1999 for applications of low- bit rate multimedia on mobile platforms and the Internet with the support of object-based or content based coding by modeling the scene as background and foreground. Since MPEG-1 the main video coding standards were based on the so-called macroblocks. However research groups continued the work beyond the traditional video coding architectures and found that macroblocks could limit the performance of the compression when using high-resolution video. Therefore in 2013 the high efficiency video coding (HEVC) also known and H. 265 was released with a structure similar to H. 264/AVC but using coding units with more flexible partitions than the traditional macroblocks. HEVC has greater flexibility in prediction modes and transform block sizes also it has a more sophisticated interpolation and de blocking filters. In 2006 the VC-1 was released. VC-1 is a video codec implemented by Microsoft and the Microsoft Windows Media Video (VMW) 9 and standardized by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE). In 2017 the Joint Video Experts Team (JVET) released a call for proposals for a new video coding standard initially called Beyond the HEVC Future Video Coding (FVC) or known as Versatile Video Coding (VVC). VVC is being built on top of HEVC for application on Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) High Dynamic Range (HDR) and 360° Video. The VVC is planned to be finalized by 2020. This book presents the new VVC and updates on the HEVC. The book discusses the advances in lossless coding and covers the topic of screen content coding. Technical topics discussed include: Beyond the High Efficiency Video CodingHigh Efficiency Video Coding encoderScreen contentLossless and visually lossless coding algorithmsFast coding algorithmsVisual quality assessmentOther screen content coding algorithmsOverview of JPEG Series

5S for the Office Organizing the Workplace to Eliminate Waste

5S for the Office Organizing the Workplace to Eliminate Waste

Although office and administrative activities are usually 60 percent of the production costs in most manufacturing organizations these areas often get excluded during lean initiatives. To achieve lean office activities must fully support shop floor manufacturing operations to eliminate waste. The adoption of 5S throughout all office and administrative functions is the first step to increase efficiency. In 5S for the Office: Organizing the Workplace to Eliminate Waste Tom Fabrizio and Don Tapping bring the concepts of the 5S System - effective tools for the elimination of waste on the shop floor - into the office environment. The activities at the heart of 5S for the Office (organizing ordering cleaning standardizing and sustaining all of these) are completely logical. They are the basic rules for managing any effective workplace. However it is the systematic method with which the 5S system approaches these activities that makes it unique. This book is a blueprint for building a Lean foundation for your office Readers of this book can immediately apply the concepts of 5S to their office and administrative activities resulting in the elimination of waste reduced production costs and increased profits. To introduce the 5S system and sell its use to executives as well as workers consider purchasing - ; 5S System: An Introduction DVD Catalog no. PP5934 Adhering to the principle of efficiency that defines this revolutionary and proven system this video succinctly explains what is involved who should participate and what it will take to get started. | 5S for the Office Organizing the Workplace to Eliminate Waste

Human and Nonhuman Bone Identification A Color Atlas

Human and Nonhuman Bone Identification A Color Atlas

When a bone of unknown origin is found at a location forensic implications arise immediately. Is this bone human and if so is it evidence of a murder? Human and Non-Human Bone Identification: A Color Atlas presents a comprehensive handbook of photographs and other information essential for law enforcement and forensic anthropologists when examining skeletal remains and determining species and body parts. Presenting over 3000 color photographs this atlas is a practical comparative guide to the differences among species for nearly all bones in the body. Useful in either the laboratory or the field it features images of the types of bones that are most commonly discovered and provides annotations pointing out salient features. The book begins with a section on general osteology and explains the major anatomical differences between humans and other animals. It compares human and non-human bones categorized by type of bone and includes most of the major bones in humans and non-humans. The third section discusses non-human skeletal elements categorized by species and explores numerous skeletal elements within those species. This book is also available on a fully searchable DVD: Catalog no. 62964Includes Bones from the Following Species! Taxonomic Nomenclature What’s in a Name – Theory and History

Taxonomic Nomenclature What’s in a Name – Theory and History

This book suggests an in-depth look at nomenclature in systematics instead of providing another instruction for use of various Codes of nomenclature. The focus is on ideas of what taxonomic nomenclature is as a part of the professional language of systematics considered in its full historical and conceptual scope. Basic concepts of nomenclature are outlined and their development characterized; a hierarchy of fundamental principles of nomenclature are summarized; and the relationship between taxonomic nomenclature and taxonomic theory discussed. This book is addressed to those who would like to go beyond the boundaries of existing Codes to look at the subject from a more general mostly theoretical standpoint. Key Features • Provides a review of the role of nomenclature in systematics • Reviews the conceptual scope and historical contexts of nomenclature • Analyzes fundamental principles of nomenclature • Outlines the historical development of nomenclature • Reviews the rules of nomenclature in botany zoology microbiology and horticulture Related Titles Mishler B.
