SpellForce 3 is the third installment of a series of games that interestingly combine elements of real-time strategy with a computer RPG. The production was entrusted to the subsidiary of Nordic Games, the German studio Grimlore Games, which includes experienced RTS creators (including Peter Ohlmann, co-creator of The Settlers II) and developers of the first two parts of the series.The plot of SpellForce 3 was set five hundred years before the action of the first part of the series, before the fantastic continent of Eo was torn apart into small islands connected by portals. Thus, the player has the opportunity to trace the events that led to the tragic ritual of convocation in which the Circle played an important role - the association of thirteen most powerful mages of all races. The main threat in this part of the series is the mysterious Arcane faction.In keeping with the tradition of the series, SpellForce 3 for PC deftly combines the mechanics of RTS and RPG games. The player creates and develops his own character, and can add companions to his team, known as the story progresses. The heroes development system is even more open than in the previous parts, incl. thanks to the departure from the classical division into classes. Instead, the creators have prepared a number of skills and specializations that can be selected according to your needs. We can lead a team of up to four heroes, whose task is to solve puzzles, avoid traps and fight small groups of enemies. At such moments, the game resembles hack-and slash productions. In most missions, however, sooner or later, we take over the management of our camp in the RTS formula - we erect buildings, extract raw materials and recruit troops that support the actions of heroes.This time the scale of the clashes is even greater (we can have up to 300 units under our command), so the soldiers no longer resemble an armed gang, but a regular army in which formations play an important role. The course of the battle is also influenced by factors such as terrain, visibility and reconnaissance.The setting of the action before the events of the number one resulted in a different structure of the location - instead of separated areas connected with each other by portals, we have one large continent. The maps, in turn, are divided into segments over which we gradually take control, and in order to obtain resources from a given area, it must be adjacent to our territory.
