De eerste lamp werd al in 1965 geïntroduceerd door Elio Martinelli en Gae Aulenti, Aulenti als hoofdontwerper van de lamp gaf er toen al vreugde aan. De lamp wordt nog steeds groot erkend en wordt nog steeds in nieuwe maten en kleuren geproduceerd. De lampen hebben veel verschillende mogelijkheden, ook al zien ze er hetzelfde uit.
