Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is the official continuation of the extremely popular game Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis from 2001. The sequel remains faithful to its predecessor and presents a lot of tactical action with a very simulation and realistic approach. Depending on the nature of the mission, we play the role of commanders of several units taking part in the operation carried out on the small island of Skira (East Asia). This area is at the center of the geopolitical game between several powers due to its oil reserves. Controlled by Russia, however, it is becoming a place of armed conflict due to the Chinese invasion. Our task is therefore to take action to recapture the island from the hands of the Chinese army.
Gameplay
The creators set themselves a very ambitious task - to show the modern battlefield as faithfully as possible. However, the simulation character has been properly balanced to guarantee spectacularity and dynamics. Most of the elements of the world can be permanently destroyed - this applies to both buildings and our equipment, which can get stuck in the middle of a fight. When sowing destruction, however, you have to bear in mind the future tasks - buildings destroyed in one mission remain in this condition until the end of the campaign. Another example of the detail of the world may be the appearance of the soldiers themselves - they differ significantly from each other, also with the insignia on the uniform, thanks to which the trained eye can easily recognize the rank of a given unit. Missions offer a lot of freedom - we receive individual tasks, but the way they are performed depends on our creativity and tactical sense. The game area is 220 square kilometers, generated from satellite images of a real island. Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising offers several dozen combat machines (AH-1Z Super Cobra helicopters, M1A1 Abrams tanks, LAV-25 armored vehicles etc.) and a large set of small arms (about 70 types). Of course, everything is made with great attention to detail and realism, also when it comes to preparing the weapon for use - some of the weapons must be assembled according to the instructions before use.
