Acer Palmatum 'Sango Kaku' (Japanese Maple 'Sango Kaku' / Coral-Bark Maple) - Shrub
The Acer is unusual because of its flaky orange-brown bark. It has dark green leaves up to 10cm but, in autumn, these turn orange or scarlet and, in spring, beautiful yellow flowers in pendulous racemes appear. Suited to all gardens but prefer fresh, acid terrain. These are slow growers so are good in pots and on balconies. They are effective planted alone or in groups. The origin of this plant is located primarily in Japan, Korea and China. It has a hardiness rating of H6 making it perfect for the British climate. Make sure to shelter it in extreme cold weather conditions. Stick to the guidelines of pruning group 1. Prone to potential pests and diseases so take care when maintaining.
