Hazel Hedge Corylus avellana Single Bare Root 60/90cm
Grow a bushy hedge with large, rounded leaves with this superb Hazel variety, also known as Cobnut.Pretty green leaves grow from spring with slightly serrated edges and characteristic pointed tips, before turning to a seasonal shade of golden orange when autumn rolls around. From the end of winter to early spring, fluffy yellow catkins dangle along the edge of twigs left bare by seasonal conditions.Dainty yellow flowers emerge at the same time as the catkin clusters but can easily be overlooked due to their small stature. Pale green hazelnuts are produced in autumn when at least some of the catkins and flowers have been saved from trimming, much to the delight of squirrels! What's more, Hazel hedges are a perfect solution for attracting wildlife to the garden, as dozens of insect species, as well as small mammals, will benefit from the shelter and foliage.Easy to grow, this deciduous and hardy hedge will thrive in most free-draining soil types, even when exposed to strong winds or long periods of shade.Don't forget to use one of our handy bamboo cane and spiral guard sets when planting a bare root hedge. The cane will keep the bare root upright as it grows, while the spiral guard will protect the base of the plant from wildlife to achieve as thick a hedge as possible.Hazel hedges grow at a good rate, by roughly 45cm per year. Supplied as a bare root plant, 60-90cm tall, ready for planting.
