The Loquat is originally from Ancient China and was later on introduced to Japan around a similar time period. It has been cultivated there for about 1,000 years. It has since been naturalised in many countries all over the world. The first European contact with the species potentially was in 16th century Portugal at the height of Japanese-Portuguese contact. The plant itself is an evergreen tree that produces an abundance of orange and yellow fruit during the spring time. Throughout the rest of the year, it mainly blossoms white flowers. Mexican Fan Palm / Skyduster (Washingtonia Robusta)

There are two main commonly cultivated Washingtonia species: Washingtonia robusta ( Mexican palm, Skyduster, Petticoat Palm) and Washingtonia filifera (California fan palm). Washingtonia filifera differs from W. robusta by width of trunk, erectness of fronds, presence of strings on frond margins, gray-green color, and cold hardiness. The two species can also hybridise. Washingtonia filifera has fan-shaped greyish green fronds 1-2m across whose tips arch down. Its margins are more stringy than Washingtonia robusta. These palm trees look really attractive when old dead fronds are allowed to accumulate against the trunk giving it a shaggy appearance. The inflorescence on stalks extending beyond foliage bears small off-white flowers which produce tiny black berries. The tree is not very hardy at H1C so shelter during normal British winter. Strelitzia Reginae (Bird of Paradise Plant)

Evergreen, perennial plant which forms clumps which look like Banana plants. The ovate, glaucous green leaves are 40-50 cm long and 15-20 cm wide and the stalks are 60 cm tall. Agave Desmettiana Variegata (Variegated Smooth Agave)

This agave's foliage is evergreen, with yellowish to medium green or greyish to bluish-green leaves that have a yellow border on the margins. The leaves are fleshy, thick and smooth, with very tiny marginal thorns and brownish apical spines. Growing in an upright manner, the symmetrical rosette has recurved leaves that create an elegant urn-like or architectural form that’s most appealing. At about 8-10 years of age, this monocarpic agave will produce a thick green flowering stalk, which emerges from the center of the plant and grows 8-10 feet in height, bearing panicles of bright yellow blooms. Lagerstroemia Indica (Crape Myrtle) – Shrub

Lagerstroemia Indica are deciduous, have a rapid growth rate, and are often seen in their multi-stemmed form. They will grow in almost any kind of soil: sand, loam or clay, although it prefers moist, well-drained soil and full sunlight. This plant is easily transplanted and is drought and alkaline tolerant, but it does have pest and disease problems. It is even possible to grow them in containers if they are watered and fertilized properly.  They will grow in partial shade, however, the best flowering will occur on plants that receive more than 6 hours of direct sun. This plant blooms from June until fall, and to promote flower bloom, it is best to trim off seed pods. Fall color is not very impressive because the tree is tropical and loses it's leaves early. Arrow Bamboo (Bambusa Pseudosasa Japonica)

Arrow Bamboo gets its name from the shape of its leaves – which can reach lengths of 25cm and end with a long thin point.
