Randomized Phase II Cancer Clinical Trials

Randomized Phase II Cancer Clinical Trials

In cancer research a traditional phase II trial is designed as a single-arm trial that compares the experimental therapy to a historical control. This simple trial design has led to several adverse issues including increased false positivity of phase II trial results and negative phase III trials. To rectify these problems oncologists and biostatisticians have begun to use a randomized phase II trial that compares an experimental therapy with a prospective control therapy. Randomized Phase II Cancer Clinical Trials explains how to properly select and accurately use diverse statistical methods for designing and analyzing phase II trials. The author first reviews the statistical methods for single-arm phase II trials since some methodologies for randomized phase II trials stem from single-arm phase II trials and many phase II cancer clinical trials still use single-arm designs. The book then presents methods for randomized phase II trials and describes statistical methods for both single-arm and randomized phase II trials. Although the text focuses on phase II cancer clinical trials the statistical methods covered can also be used (with minor modifications) in phase II trials for other diseases and in phase III cancer clinical trials. Suitable for cancer clinicians and biostatisticians this book shows how randomized phase II trials with a prospective control resolve the shortcomings of traditional single-arm phase II trials. It provides readers with numerous statistical design and analysis methods for randomized phase II trials in oncology.

Quaternary Alloys Based on II - VI Semiconductors

Quaternary Alloys Based on II - VI Semiconductors

Doped by isovalent or heterovalent foreign impurities II–VI semiconductor compounds enable control of optical and electronic properties making them ideal in detectors solar cells and other precise device applications. Quaternary alloys allow a simultaneous adjustment of band gap and lattice constant increasing radiant efficiency at a wide range of wavelengths. Quaternary Alloys Based on II–VI Semiconductors consolidates data pertaining to diagrams of quaternary systems based on these semiconductor compounds. The book illustrates up-to-date experimental and theoretical information about phase relations based on II–VI semiconductor systems with four components. It critically evaluates many industrially significant systems presented in two-dimensional sections for the condensed phases. The author classifies all materials according to the periodic groups of their constituent atoms and additional components in the order of their group number. Each quaternary database description contains brief information on the diagram type possible phase transformations and physical–chemical interactions of the components thermodynamic characteristics and methods for equilibrium investigation and sample preparation. Most of the phase diagrams are in their original form. For those with varying published data the text includes several versions for comparison. This book provides invaluable data for technologists and researchers involved in developing and manufacturing II–VI semiconductors at industrial and national laboratories. It is also suitable for phase relations researchers inorganic chemists and semiconductor physicists as well as graduate students in materials science and engineering. The Official History of Privatisation Vol. II Popular Capitalism 1987-97

This is Volume II of Professor Parker's authoritative Official History of Privatisation covering the period from the re-election of Margaret Thatcher in 1987 to the election of Tony Blair in 1997. Volume II considers in detail several of the major privatisations including those of airports steel water electricity coal and the railways as well as a number of smaller ones. Each privatisation involved major challenges in terms of industrial restructuring organising successful sales and in a number of cases establishing effective regulatory regimes. The policy evolved and new methods of selling and regulating were put in place that enabled further disposals to occur. Monolithic nationalised industries with their emphasis on the benefits of economies of scale vertical integration and rationalisation were replaced by industrial structures rooted in the importance of commercial management risk taking and competition. In government departments and parts of the National Health Service direct employees were replaced by private contractors and private investment became a characteristic of public infrastructure in the form of PFI/PPP schemes. This study draws heavily on the official records of the British government to which the author was given full access and on interviews with the leading figures involved in each of the privatisations including ex-ministers civil servants business and City figures as well as academics that have studied the subject. This book will of great interest to students of privatisation British political history and of business and economics in general. | The Official History of Privatisation Vol. II Popular Capitalism 1987-97

Handbook of Nutraceuticals Volume II Scale-Up Processing and Automation

Handbook of Nutraceuticals Volume II Scale-Up Processing and Automation

Due in part to an absence of universally accepted standardization methods nutraceuticals and functional foods face regulatory ignorance marketing incompetence and ethical impunity. Even though many researchers believe that there is a connection between nutraceuticals and functional foods and reduced health care expenses as well as disease prevention the credibility and quality control challenge remains. The industry needs more standardized testing reliable reproducible clinical studies to prove the efficacies of products in vivo and in-process controls to maintain universal product quality. The first volume of the Handbook of Nutraceuticals re-defined Nutraceuticals covering the regulatory aspect as well as insisting on the cGMP’s and SOP’s for the nutraceutical manufacturing. This second volume focuses on the scale up processing and automation of nutraceutical production under cGMP production regulations. It covers: Advancements in extraction methods Unit operations involved in scaling up and processing Rheological and flow properties of products as characterization parameters Fortification and value enhancement using nanotechnology Green concepts in food industry Flavoring of nutraceuticals Clinical batch nutraceutical manufacturing New technologies to prevent counterfeiting Automation in nutraceutical industry The nutraceutical market is at the crossroads. With a nearly $200 billion market for nutraceuticals and functional foods by end of 2013 and promising developments in product design and discovery the industry must be ready for intense scrutiny. The standardization of testing clinical studies and adherence to rigorous industry and scientific methods is necessary for the advancement acceptance and development of high quality effective nutraceuticals. With contributions from leading authorities this book brings together hundreds of years of combined experience to provide guidance on how to increase the quality and credibility of nutraceutical products. | Handbook of Nutraceuticals Volume II Scale-Up Processing and Automation
