Stochastic Process Optimization using Aspen Plus

Stochastic Process Optimization using Aspen Plus

Stochastic Process Optimization using Aspen® PlusBookshop Category: Chemical EngineeringOptimization can be simply defined as choosing the best alternative among a set of feasible options. In all the engineering areas optimization has a wide range of applications due to the high number of decisions involved in an engineering environment. Chemical engineering and particularly process engineering is not an exception; thus stochastic methods are a good option to solve optimization problems for the complex process engineering models. In this book the combined use of the modular simulator Aspen® Plus and stochastic optimization methods codified in MATLAB is presented. Some basic concepts of optimization are first presented then strategies to use the simulator linked with the optimization algorithm are shown. Finally examples of application for process engineering are discussed. The reader will learn how to link the process simulator Aspen® Plus and stochastic optimization algorithms to solve process design problems. They will gain ability to perform multi-objective optimization in several case studies. Key Features:• The book links simulation and optimization through numerical analyses and stochastic optimization techniques • Includes use of examples to illustrate the application of the concepts and specific guidance on the use of software (Aspen® Plus Excel MATLB) to set up and solve models representing complex problems. • Illustrates several examples of applications for the linking of simulation and optimization software with other packages for optimization purposes. • Provides specific information on how to implement stochastic optimization with process simulators. • Enable readers to identify practical and economic solutions to problems of industrial relevance enhancing the safety operation environmental and economic performance of chemical processes. | Stochastic Process Optimization using Aspen Plus®

Net-Zero and Positive Energy Communities Best Practice Guidance Based on the ZERO-PLUS Project Experience

This book presents a methodology for the design construction monitoring optimization and post-occupancy evaluation of net-zero and positive-energy communities based on the experiences gained in the EU Horizon 2020 ZERO-PLUS project. It describes the steps tools and methods developed during the project providing practical information for the energy and construction sector that will be of interest to students engineers architects developers and professionals working around high performance architecture and sustainable communities. Through the ZERO-PLUS project a consortium of 32 partners from eight countries including academic institutions technology providers architects and construction companies designed four communities covering completely different geo-climatic regions construction practices and cultural backgrounds in Cyprus Italy France and the UK. The communities were designed optimized constructed monitored handed over to tenants post-occupancy evaluated and troubleshooted through a system of continuous collaboration and data acquisition. This book presents these case studies and shows how the project targets of reducing electricity consumption below 20 kWh/m2/y increasing electricity production from Renewable Energy Systems to over 50 kWh/m2/y and at cheaper costs when compared to current zero-energy buildings were reached and surpassed. These cases demonstrate that a holistic and interactive approach to design and construction can bring communities a high standard of sustainability. The key features of the book include: Practical guidance drawn from the interdisciplinary international and remote cooperation between experts from academia and industry across the construction sector A survey of the state-of-the-art on net-zero and positive-energy communities including the experience and the lessons learned from previous projects and from the ZERO-PLUS project Descriptions of novel emerging renewable energy technologies integrated into real case study communities to achieve the energy generation target of the communities A comprehensive set of approaches tools guidelines best practices challenges and lessons learned from the five-year ZERO-PLUS project and the completion of four residential case studies to inform the reader of how to achieve affordable net-zero energy communities Four typologies of residential communities located in different climatic conditions are presented touching on the critical aspects of the design construction monitoring and occupancy phase A discussion of future trends for developing communities that are more liveable accessible and sustainable and which can comply with new energy policies in a way that is affordable for the owners and residents. | Net-Zero and Positive Energy Communities Best Practice Guidance Based on the ZERO-PLUS Project Experience

Advancing the Regional Commons in the New East Asia

Advancing the Regional Commons in the New East Asia

Advancing the Regional Commons in the New East Asia highlights a number of interests which members of ASEAN and Plus Three countries collectively recognize. This set of common interests includes not only economic development but also social development. Written by nationals in their respective countries the different chapters in this volume highlights the different foundations for such common interests and these reflect the different constructive ways in which ASEAN and Plus Three countries come to see a multi-strand cooperative partnership. The task of advancing the regional commons will involve efforts to recognise and nurture ASEAN’s and Plus Three’s common interests in terms of broad social development managing regional security issues the development of a regional infrastructure and ensuring collective progress for all member countries. ASEAN becomes a community in 2015 and the idea of embracing protecting sustaining and advancing the regional commons become a vital process. Concurrently APT has also realized that its contribution to the achieving goal of community and promoting regional commons is absolutely critical for both ASEAN and the Plus Three countries. Academics will find in this volume a clear analytical treatment of issues which regional groupings are currently facing and this can provide the basis for a comparative analysis. This volume will also be of interest to students and the general public looking for a systematic introduction to the successful implementation of cooperative ventures and also an assessment of the new collaborative energies which shape this dynamic region.
