A full standard, deciduous tree with a trunk which is usually upright right to the top, surrounded by light branches that fall gracefully at the ends The tree itself is native to Europe and Asia, even reaching the mountains of Turkey, the Caucasus and Northern Iran. In the first 2-3 years the bark is a greyish-brown but becomes chalk white and flakes off in thin stripes. The leaves are long and pale green but a beautiful yellow in the autumn. The tree flowers in March-April – brownish-yellow hanging catkins. This is a very hardy tree, will adapt to all types of soil and tolerates extreme conditions of drought and humidity. A fast grower suitable for all gardens, effective on its own or in groups. It has an extremely high tolerance to cold at H7 so only in extreme situations must be shelter it.
