Claude Achille Debussy: Le Petit Nègre (Quintet-Wind)

The Little Negro was originally composed by Claude Debussy (1862-1918) for Piano in 1909. The purpose was to write a great work that could also played by children. Eugène Bozza made the piece even more accessible in 1984 by arranging it for Wind Quintet. The Little Negro is marked Allegro and begins with a theme modelled on ragtime music, a style which was very popular at the time of composition. Jazz influences, the C major key signature, 2/4 meter and upbeat features make for an exciting and accessible piece for all the ensemble. Bozza 's arrangement of Debussy 's The Little Negro for a Wind Quintet made up of Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, Bassoon and Horn is a thrilling addition to the repertoire.

Composed by Alphonse Maxime (Jean Marie Maximin François Alphonse, known as Griet, 1880-1930), Deux cent études nouvelles, 1ere cahier is the first book of a set of six, containing 200 études for horn with different levels of difficulty. As a horn teacher who had also won the Premier Prix in Horn at the Paris Conservatoire, Alphonse Maxime wrote this set progressively to ensure that the content matched the need for quality studies, starting with pieces for beginners, and evolving through the books to those for advanced students. Pierre Camus: Chanson et Badinerie (Flute & Piano)

Composer Pierre Camus (1885-1948) is little known today. However, his Chanson and Badinerie is a sublime addition to the Flute's repertoire and proves to be an exciting, yet challenging piece for performers. Camus' piece for Flute and Piano accompaniment is in two movements. Chanson (Song) is composed in 6/8 meter and reflects French romantic characteristics in its use of lyrical melodies, use of the lower register of the Flute, and chromaticism. The Badinerie contrasts with this with a faster tempo, 2/4 meter, chordal Piano accompaniment and scalic semiquaver flourishes. All of these elements combine in Camus' Chanson and Badinerie to make for an exciting addition to the advanced flautist's repertoire.
