In conformity with his way of thinking, striking, forceful materials are ordered in Horváth's compositional method into harmonic and other sound sequences. The work is dedicated to the musicians who gave it its first performance: Péter Földesi and Balázs Futó.

Da capo (2014) : for cimbalom or marimba and ensemble

The meaning of "da capo" is to return to the beginning and start again. A musical process, which reaches somewhere but does not end, beginning again and again in a different way, from different basic material throughout nine stages, evolves from the starting tune. The initial tunes come from Mozart's notebooks. They are fragments, ideas for themes, which in their majority or not in the outlined form did not result in finished compositions. Péter Eötvös presents these tunes to listeners in a clearly recognisable way but he immediately develops and transforms them. Mozart's themes are almost immediately remodelled in the chamber ensemble, the instruments of which were stillunknown in the 18th century, and the musical journey is made especially adventurous in that the solo (whether played on the cimbalom or the marimba) is presented by a musical instrument which cannot have been used in the 18th century.

Zoltán Kocsis (1952-2016) left a lasting mark not only as a phenomenal pianist, but as a musical polymath: his genius combined the composer, conductor, editor, instrumentalist, and orchestrator. With his transcriptions he enriched the symphonic, chamber, song, and piano repertoires with a hundred and fifty works.This publication contains a transcription by Kocsis of the prelude to Wagner's Tristan und Isolde. In 1982 the work was recorded played by Kocsis, and today we regularly find it in pianists' programmes. Missa Pannonica Op.96

Vocal music, especially church music, has always played an important role in the oeuvre of the extremely versatile composer Sándor Szokolay (1931-2013). He left behind four complete mass settings among these Missa Pannonica , written for six-part mixed choir, was composed in 1987 for the Tomkins Vocal Ensemble conducted by János Dobra. János Malina praised the nearly half-hour, large-scale and virtuosic work as follows: "The mass is an outstanding achievement within Szokolay's sacred music oeuvre. It is a composition with extremely rich musical contents, and it is impressively spontaneous and powerful, combining a broad range of styles, traditions, and influences in a veryoriginal way."

The original manuscript of the work has been lost, but a copy with corrections in the composer's hand, dating presumably from 1804, has come down to us. Beethoven added the following comment on the title page: 'geschrieben auf Bonaparte', which lends authenticity to the familiar story that oroginally the composer had named the symphony after Napoleon Bonaparte, but when he learnt that the revolutionary whom he idolized had let himself crown emperor, he tore off the cover page of the score in disillusion and rage, and changed both its title and dedication in the following way: 'Sinfonia EROICA, composta per festeggiare il sovvenire d'un grand' uomo, e dedicata a Sua AltezzaSerenissima il Principe di Lobkowitz.'

Positions pour baryton et clarinette

Linked to expressive, passionate verses by Albert Ehrenstein (1886?1950) is a quiet meditation by an unknown 16th-century English poet on the relationship between music and the night. Two languages, two epochs and two diametrically different concepts of poetry are brought together in an inspired way in this song-cycle, Schubertian in its intimacy yet truly postmodern. The earlier version of the work, since withdrawn, was written for tenor, that version was heard at a number of concerts and on recordings, performed by Tamás Bubnó and Lajos Rozmán. The composer decided, however, that it was better to rework the piece for a deeper-voiced singer, thus ten years after itspremi?re it has now been given its final form.
