The Technical Studies 2 is the second volume of Supplements which completes New Liszt Edition with 11 volumes. Liszt's series of exercises designed to maintain or further perfect piano technique which has already attained the highest level, are now accessible in their entirety. The Critical Notes make it possible to study, among other things, the most important discrepancies between the sources of the volume. Aulos Volume I-II : Piano pieces for practising polyphony

Aulos to a certain degree continues Orbán's easy piano pieces for children, which he composed for Ágnes Lakos's piano tutor and which Editio Musica Budapest published in a separate volume entitled Enchanted Forest in 2011 (Z. 14742). Yet on this occasion the composer took on something which was both significantly different and more than his earlier pieces for children. On the one hand, he did not compose for beginners but for more advanced students who have studied piano for at least three years. On the other, he did not set developing the technique of piano playing as an aim, rather a systematic presentation of different polyphonic genres and compositional procedures(imitation, fugue, stretto, inversion, augmentation and diminution, double counterpoint, latent polyphony, double and triple fugue, cantus firmus technique, etc.).

At first sight, this publication appears to be a collection of pieces, for the technical studies, not too attractive but so characteristic of tutors, are missing. Yet the selection of the works, their order according to the development of ensemble playing and the advice includeed after the foreword and containig proposals for the technical realization of ensemble playing in the case of certain typical pieces – these all make this publication a tutor.The works form a cross-section of a longer period of the history of chamber music and offer an insight into thedifferent methods of composition.

Series I of the complete edition, launched in 1970 (original two-hands piano works, volumes 1-18), was completed in 1985, and with the publication of this volume Series II (transcriptions of works by other composers, volumes 1-24) has come to an end. The works contained in this volume are from Liszt's so-called 'late' period. This publication is available in two versions: bound in blue linen, or in grey boards. Volume 23, the penultimate volume in Series II of the complete edition contains free arrangements by Liszt dating from between 1859 and 1861. The best-known among these are the three Verdi opera fantasias: the Miserere du Trovatore, Ernani and Rigoletto, together with the two Wagner transcriptions: the Spinnerlied aus Der fliegende Holländer and the Fantasiestück über Motive aus Rienzi. The volume also contains two transcriptions each from Berlioz and Lassen, and one each from Bach, Meyerbeer and Dietsch. Weihnachtsbaum and other Works (NLE Vol. 14B) : Années de Pelerinage, Troisieme Année (paperback)

Supplement Volume 14 of the New Liszt Edition contains mostly unpublished early versions of piano works from the last two decades of the composer’s life. The bulk of the volume comprises pieces from Volume 3 of Années de pelerinage and the Weihnachtsbaum cycle. Of the latter, two complete early versions are extant. One of these consists of pieces which are shorter and more condensed than the final version. For performer and listener alike, it is an exciting experience to become familiar with this set of pieces in its early form. Among the individual pieces in this volume, the autograph version of the beautifully evocative Schlummerlied im Grabe is also published here for the first time. Finally, Liszt’s characteristically economical attitude to composing can be studied in the original form of what can be considered as the common starting point for La lugubre gondola I and II. The latest volume of the New Liszt Edition also contains a detailed preface in German, English, and Hungarian, including new results of research, five manuscript facsimiles, and critical notes. Along with the cloth-bound Complete Edition, a paperback version for practical use has also been published. This edition’s contents are identical to those of the hardcover edition, except for the omission of the critical notes.
