Rise of the Owlverlord is a standalone expansion pack to the Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams arcade game, created by experienced designers from the independent German studio Black Forest Games. The production is an attempt to revive the cult legend, modeled on Super Mario Bros platformer from 1987, set in a fantastic dream by two sisters: Giana and Maria.
The authors' intention of Project Giana (because that was the name of the game at an early stage of production) was not to be just an ordinary remake. Using the general concept of the original, the developers made many significant changes to the mechanics of the game, which gave it a completely new character. The most important novelty was the resignation of the two sisters in favor of one, Giana, whose dual nature allowed her to transform from a girl lost in a dream into a punk rebel and vice versa. Along with the transformation of the heroine, we move from the polite, candy world to its nightmarish counterpart, using its specific abilities in each of them.
Rise of the Owlverlord expands the base game with 7 new levels, another boss, an instructional level and a completely new story. The graphic design has remained the same in terms of style, but in terms of music, we get completely new pieces by Chris Hülsbeck and the Machinae Supremacy band. The new Steam achievements and full controller support have not been forgotten either. The add-on will allow us to spend the next several dozen minutes with Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams.
