Som en känslolös härskare över Nederriket var demonkungen Azahazzar en mardrömslik legend som alla fruktade. Det var först när den mörka guden Poxxus kallade honom in i Mythoss värld som mardrömmen blev alltför verklig för dem på det dödliga planet. Poxxus kallelse fick bieffekten att Azahazzar delades upp i tvillingdemonerna Azhar och Zazhar. Som generalerna från The Circle of Poxxus, har Azhar och Zazhar ägnat evigheter åt att leta efter The Pestsayer, Poxxus förbannade båge, i hopp om att få hans återkomst. Vid sin ankomst har Poxxus nu uppfyllt demonerna deras önskan, och återförenat dem till den mäktiga Azahazzar. As the generals of The Circle of Poxxus, Azhar and Zazhar have spent ages searching for The Plaguesayer, Poxxus' cursed bow, in hopes of bringing about his return. Upon his arrival, Poxxus has now granted the demons their wish, recombining them into the mighty Azahazzar. As a commander of Poxxus' armies, Azahazzar wields his power to destroy and beget life with a mere touch.

Here they found the vast cavern that would become the city of Gobhollow. Allowed to fester in the darkness, this malignancy would grow for ages until the goblins rose once again to answer the call of Arethyr and fight in his fiery Legion.

Members of these cults, and the familiars that manifested as an extension of their faith, were driven from the kingdoms shortly after the First Great War. A scholar who initially fought beside Bassylia, Arraya the Talon Bearer broke from the Convocation to found the Sect of Arrezius where she chronicled the evidence that formed the basis of the cultists' beliefs. While those writings were ordered destroyed, evidence suggests that they were actually saved by members of Ophidionn and remain hidden within the vaults of that kingdom's Great Library.

Attlus var försiktig med att skrämma björnen och backade tyst, men björnen öppnade ögonen och tittade sig fram. Attlus kände hur hans andetag lämnade kroppen. Han såg hur hans frus ögon speglade sig i det odjurets blick, och den barbariske kungen visste att hans fru på något sätt hade skickat denna varelse till hans sida i hans mest desperata stund. Making his way to the tree under which he had buried her body, the tree whose desecration by orc raiders led to Attlus picking up his blades once again, the barbarian was greeted with an unexpected sight. A gigantic bear sat by the charred remains of the tree, its head bowed and eyes closed as if in silent prayer. Wary of alarming the bear, Attlus backed away quietly, but the bear opened his eyes and looked his way. Attlus felt his breath leave his body. He saw his wife's eyes reflected in the gaze of that beast, and the barbarian king knew that somehow, his wife had sent this creature to his side in his most desperate hour. Together, man and beast left Risha's Grove, as Attlus the Conqueror rode Bödvar towards the greatest battle the Realm of Mythoss had ever seen.
